I'd have to disagree, it has more of a shop feel than a Hockey Costco feel like the old location. Everything everything was easy to find, good prices and friendly staff. I picked up a new helmet the Bauer 5100! Nice and snug and comfy. Oh and I asked for a discount and they gave me an extra 10%!

    Nice? They were nice?

well... either you know their supplier or you've just got a kind face because everytime I go there theyre ****ing asswipes. after thousands of dollars and years of business, the last time I was literally forced to set foot in that store, I walked in, got the stick I was looking for (because the Monkey was sold out of the pattern and I had a game in a few hours and no stick), walked to the checkout, placed the stick and my credit card on the table, completed the purchase and walked the eff out without saying a word.

In the last five years I have been there a dozen times that I can remember and only been treated well once. By a 17 year old that had quit by my next visit.

    Shop Monkey, ftw.

I had a similar experience when I upgraded my gear last year. I bought skates, shoulder pads, shin guards, elbow pads, a visor and a couple of practice jerseys. I had a great time talking to the staff guys and found them to be very friendly and outgoing. When I finally paid for everything, they gave me 10% off (even on sale prices) without having to ask.

So I went back a couple of weeks later and they gave me a big "hello" when I walked in. They gave me the same 10% off on the rest of the gear I picked up. I guess sometimes you get back what you put in.

I also have a great experience every time I go to Monkey. The guys there always help me find the best deals on the gear I need. I find both stores to be great resources and I always have a fun shopping day because it's all good when it's about hockey.

When I bought my skates like 5 years ago, they convinced me to go for the 852 rather than the 652 because it was a better built skate, and not that much of a difference. When they went to look for my size, they did not have any except the display pair, so they sold those to me for $50 with a free sharpening. I know the sharpening comes with it, but at the time $50 for $180 skates never sharpened was a steal.

Like Ruely said, next tie I went back the guy had quit cause he was treated poorly. Since then, they have screwed up almost all of my orders when I ordered stuff online, that was not in the store.

Still, HM is worth the extra 10 minute drive for me

i have never had a problem with hockey giant and buy all my stuff there or online from them. The one time i was at monkey their selection was crap and their staff weren't helpful in the least bit.

As with all customer service based places, different people will get different experiences based on who their dealing with and the day.

There have been many times where I have gone to Giant and regretted it and swore I would never go back (but then something happens where Im not given an option... like ordering a specific team jersey where no other place in the area was a licensed vendor... ask me how THAT went over ~> :( ), but there has never been a time where I havent left Monkey feeling well taken care of and ok with spending my money there.

I guess sometimes you get back what you put in.
true. but sometimes you get less than you paid for.

    Monkey>>>>Giant.

I'll go and make the extra drive extra any day of the week.

I talked to the guys there yesterday and they said the "festivities" start as soon as they open but the good stuff really begins around 11AM.

I'm going Saturday. I'll see you guys there.

i must admit sometimes (mostly at the end of the year) their supplies aren't the greatest. but even at their lowest, i still find more quality items at monkey than at giant.

but in season when the new inventory has come in, i like monkey way better than giant. they have a good selection and they don't carry as much crappy low end gear like giant does. monkey isn't as great as they used to be when it comes to their workers and customer service, but they're still a hell of a lot better than giant.
