it may behoove you to buy everything on clearance the first time around (if you want new) - much cheaper prices to get the feel of what you like.
also, depending on where you play roller (sport court only, roll on, concrete, etc), you may want some different equipment to play on rough surfaces, it will tear up your gear a lot faster (and one reason why I don't play roller any longer).
Are you really, really weird? Because you can't be a goalie otherwise.
Ask anyone here who knows me...Haha thank you guys again for the help! Hopefully i'll be in net for an lgk game soon!

I'm still having a problem with breaking in the Reebok chest/arm protection. It's too bulky for my liking so far. I'm going to give it another month or so. If I'm still not happy w/it, I'm really thinking about unretiring my old 80's Cooper stuff. Less protection, quite possibly. But I feel more comfortable in it. I'll probably change my tune if I get cranked in the collarbone again.
Stay the course. You WILL get injured using 20+ year old cooper stuff.
Effin COOPER?!?!? Nah...
Oh, and it depends on surface and usage. Ive played expressly Roller for years up to four nights a week and my Bauers are holding the fort just fine. Not a nick or tear to be found... after three years I just have a couple barely noticeable spots where the color of the leather has worn off. My husband, on the other hand, chose the RBK route and with 8+ games a week his are showing signs of tehFAIL after a year and a half. Also, it can't help his cause that he plays like a bastard child of Dominik Hasek and Jamie Storr. Im not that clean on the butterfly technique, but Im a hell of a lot easier on the gear. LOL
From what I've read these are the best bang for the buck.
I believe Hockey Monkey in Santa Ana carries Hackva masks, and from what I've heard, they are fantastic masks for a great price.
Alas, this thread makes me very sad because I haven't played in so long. As soon as my back problems clear up a bit, I'm getting back in my crease! I miss it so much.
Come to think of it, I shoulda kissed the posts ala Chico Resch upon my, er, triumphant return.

It is very difficult to play both ice and roller. They are way different but some people can play both.
I have a Hackva mask and it has held up really well and when I get hit in the head it doesn't hurt at all. Stay away from any Itech or Bauer 1400 mask as they are really poorly made.
As SirJW said there is some really good info on the Goalie Store Bulletin Board - Powered by vBulletin.
Oh and don't cheat by getting 12" illegal pads like NoSoup4you.:victory:
