The hand that is lower on the stick is there to act as a fulcrum. The hand that is at the top of the stick does all the work of controlling the blade, and needs the better coordination.

If you're right-handed, then shoot left.
If you're left-handed, then shoot right.

So this is why I suck at puck control.

I write, bat, and golf right handed but I play hockey left handed. It really just depends on what you're comfortable with.

Just bring a golf ball or a ping pong ball with you when you are checking out sticks and try it out real quick. Should be pretty easy to figure what feels more comfortable.
