Default Learning To Play Hockey At 37 Blog - Inspired by seabass45

So I've decided to learn to play hockey at the age of 37. I've been acquiring gear over the last few weeks and am just about set to start taking some classes. I'm just waiting for my skates to be delivered and baked.

After reading Seabass's thread and blog, I was inspired to write my own blog detailing my journey. (Thanks for the inspiration, seabass!)

San Diego Ice Arena to start. Once I'm a bit more comfortable, I expect I'll hit the other 3 rinks in the area as well.

I used to inline skate nearly every day when I was in high school. They were my transportation around town when my mom wouldn't let me borrow her car. Hopefully my muscles still remember all that.

I still need to make the transition to ice though. I've probably only ice skated 5-10 times, nascar style during open skate. Should be interesting.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Dude. You're 37. Your muscles don't remember ****. Mine are even starting to mock me.

Good Luck though and enjoy. Ice or roller - it's ALL good.

Good point, stretching before workouts or games is important. I usually skate two brisk laps then take most of the warm up to stretch my groin, thighs, back, shoulders and wrists.
