Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop on the status of the Bay Harbor Ice Rink. As expected, it is taking longer than first projected (we were originally told the rink "may" be ready to skate on in early August.....2008). We have visited the rink a few times over the past 2 months and the last was Wednesday, August 20. Each time we went to visit the rink, it looked alittle bit different than the last visit, so that was a good thing. Things are moving, but unfortunately slowly. As directors of the league we have no control and little information as to what is going on. So to give another possible start date would be foolish on our part. We are over anxious to get the league going, but we are at the mercy of the rink, construction crew and from what we understand, the city of Los Angeles building permit department. We've been given the okay to post the progress of the rink and we'll soon have some pictures on our website to show that things are moving along. At the present time, all the boards are gone, no ice, no pipes, all the ceiling insulation is removed. The old concrete is out. The next step is to get the existing dirt out of the rink and moved to the parking lot to dry out. Rumors were going around that the permafrost went down to 30 feet. It ended up going down about 7 feet. "Not bad" according to the owners. New compressor room is built and the equipment is inside. And that is what we know.
We appreciate everyone's patience. We know some have heard different things about what is going on at the rink. We cannot confirm any rumors. Please just keep an open mind, at least they are shut down this time, right? So check our website www.IceAngeles.com
and we'll keep you posted. Of course you can email or call too.
Again, thank you for hanging in there. We'll get there eventually. But we may have to change our Inaugural Summer Season to an Inaugural Winter Season.
