Default Nice Roller Rink in Covina ** ITS FREE TO PLAY AT**

    Hi everyone,

I live in Covina. I was bored one day and found one of those community newsletters that tells about kids swimming clases and Pop Warner Football. I kept reading and found that Covina has not one but two roller hockey rinks that are FREE to play at. That is if no one has reserved the time in advance.
I went this morning and skated around for about an hour. It is a painted concrete rink that is regulation size (5 on 5). The boards are in great shape and it looks like no one plays there.

If you guys want I can look into reserving a time to play there. There weren't any goals though. I'm sure that they have them available if we reserve the time.

    Let me know.

It is Kahler Russell Park, 735 N. Glendora Avenue, Covina CA

I played for an hour last night. It was dimly(sp?) lit, but I got my stick handling practice in for NOTHIN'!

Its a little cooler now than earlier on in the year, so AC is not a big deal. The issue is NO GOALS. The rink is a good place to practice stick handling, passing, working on different types of shots (snap, wrist and slap), but as far as actually "playing", the Corona rink probably pwns.

I'm not trying to harsh yer gig Ruely, I was just showing a little gem in Covina.

I dont have a gig. Anything has to be better than Effin Orangewood Park.

It's still hotter than a mug there. The lights are halfassed and Ive had more goals scored on me from where the suns glare reflects off the surface than I can count (doesnt help ease the slump Im in...). On top of that, the reffing is horrible and it puts Mr. Ruely in a very unfortunate mood.

    It makes for bad times.

What's the surface at your place?

That is the old wingate park rink. CSHA used to play 30+ leagues there until they re-modeled Orangewood park rink in West Covina into "indoor".

I do not know if they have any type of leagues there. If there are still containers there, they may have nets in them unless they are all at WC. You will have to talk to someone at the park.

The surface from what I can remember should be concrete with "roll-on" paint to smooth the cracks and rough surface.

With daylight savings time now in effect, you will probably have a better turnout in the mornings than afternoons/evenings. The rink should have lighting but I think you will have to talk to someone with the parks and rec to get that squared away.

This is good news. I'm down for whenever. Someone PM me when theres a game. I'm a fan of roll on. I'll get some use out of my outdoor wheels.

Here's an aerial shot of the place:
