The "Official" Team LGK Thread.. News/Results/Updates

The inaugural game for team LGK looked nothing like a pre-season game for a team that had never played together. zgold9915 opened the scoring when he received a stick to stick pass from forward Vortex and buried it five hole, 4 minutes into the first period. 90 seconds later Defenseman Kosher Hamm poked checked a puck away from the Scorpian forward as he tried to carry the puck into the LGK zone, he then skated on sides and passed to CheezNCrakerz96 (aka Peter Harrold) who was streaking up the opposite boards where he beat the goalie with a wrist shot glove side. LGK had a chance to widen their lead but Defensemen James Jewett was robbed by the quick right leg of the Scorpion netminder after Jewett had broken in all alone on the left side and had the goalie out of position with the backhand shot short side. The Scorpions rallied around the effort by their goaltender and answered with the next two goals of the game.

A second period power play goal by Vortex gave LGK the lead at 3-2 but the defense would not hold and the Scoripians answered back with a goal off a two on one to even the contest. Defenseman Aaron Arak (who as of now; has the best looking girlfriend on the team) had the hit of the game during the middle of the second period. Scorpion Forward #14 tried to make a move to gain access to the zone and was stood up and denied by Arak who showed no interest in the slow-motion move and instead chose to take out the body.

The start of the third period opened with the Scorpions winning the draw but a quick steal by K. Hamm and a great series of cycles by LGK ended with a very athletic backhand goal by zgold9915 while the defense was draped allover him. The Scorpions would answer with another goal off a 2 on 1 that beat goalie Romik “The Postman” Rostomyan blocker side.

Team LGK found themselves with the puck and a great opportunity to score late in the third period but Gold’s one-timer off the pass from K Hamm hit the post. LGK regain possession but an ill advised backhand pass by Hamm lead to a 3-2 break for the Scorpions who finished the play with a slap shot from the right circle.

Team LGK Notes: Forward zgold9915 and Forward ElkHockey both made their roller hockey debuts and looked very solid on the hard surface.

Man it was fun to lace up the skates after a good 3 year absence! can't wait 'till tuesday....

Just a quick update. I joined the team today and we WON! I scored a goal but thats not all that happened. Wait for the PRESS RELEASE.

The preseason ended tonight with team LGK looking like a group of players that is moving in the right direction when the puck drops opening night, May 14th. They took care of business tonight with a methodical 7-2 dismantling of the Misfits.

“We understand what it takes to win hockey games, Defense first”, LGK captain Kosher Hamm, said after the game.

Team LGK resident Peter Harold (cheezNcrackerz) started off the scoring when Defenceman Kosher Hamm poked checked the puck away from the Misfits center, who had hopes of starting 3 on 1 out of the zone. The puck, sitting at the top of the slot, was picked up and passed by Hamm through the last remaining Misfit D’man’s legs to Crackerz (3 goals 1 assist), standing all by his lonesome in front of the net, he beat the goalie with a wrist shot stick side.

Jewett (1 goal 1 assist), making the switch to offence, made it a 2-0 game when he drove to the net with partner Vortex (1 goal 1 assist) and wristed it right by the Misfits net minder who never fully committed to the shot.

The first sign of Misfit life came at the start the 2nd period when a delayed penalty gave the Misfits a chance to get the extra skater on the rink and the advantage led to them getting on the board with a shot that beat goalie Romik “the Postman” five hole. “I didn’t see one shot in the first period and (the shot) surprised me, I have to come up with that save”, said the Postman after the game.

The momentum from the goal would not carry over to the next **** for the Misfits as ZGold9915 (1 goals 2 assist) won a battle at the face off circle, skated hard down the right side and shoveled a puck across the net which was redirected up and over the goalies stick by an acrobatic dive by forward Crackerz, who has made a seemless transition back to offence after spending most of the past season playing D.

After a great shift by LGK’s second line, recently signed Mr_Conie, took a draw in the offensive zone that was won clean by zgold1599, and promptly put the Misfits down by 3, a lead they would never recover from. “I clear the net. I don’t shoot much, I don’t pass well, I play Defence”, Conie said before the contest, “I just shot the puck on net, I thought someone touched it, but I don’t care as long as I see that back of the net move”.

Conie’s night would not be without drama though, late in the 2nd period while going for a puck in the corner, Conie made a move that left the entire LGK holding their breath (mainly trying to hold in the laughter) as he tried to stop and his leg slipped out from under him, leaving the big man in the splits position as he crashed into the boards leg first. Conie, though shaken up, would be fine and now will be the subject of ridicule until someone else does something more entertaining and stupid looking.

The 3rd period was little more then a skating exposition for LGK, Vortex, who could had countless chances throughout the game, finally put in a goal and Crackerz finished up the scoring by completing his hat trick. The remaining parts of the period was mostly spent having shooting practice on the Misfits net minder.

With less then 5 seconds remaining LGK had their first major Defensive let down and the Misfit forward drove in on a clean breakaway but the exclamation point was put on the game when The Postman stoned him as the final buzzer sounded.

Notes from the game:
- Team LGK welcomes Defencemen Mr_Conie, D/F Fabio (you gotta see this kid, Armenian Fabio… classic) and D Adam the Fireman.

- LGK held the Misfits without a shot in the first period

- The beer drank after the game: New Castle Brown Ale

- The first goal scored by the Misfits was answered back with a goal less then 10 seconds later
