Yeah, well, make a day of it. For a hockey nut, a day at hockey stores is better than Disneyland.

Yeah, go to Hawkhockey's (Hockey Monkey) website and look at pics of the store. You don't find stores of that size anywhere in California. It's an anomaly as far as hockey stores in these kind of small hockey markets go (Anti-Ice Hockey Weather). Do what you can to support them, keep them growing and keep them in business.
On my trip down, I might get everything, not sure, but I need to put a helmet on high priority, I don't want to crack my skull open. So I might head down to Discount Hockey for a new blade and helmet.
I've never had a bad experience at HG, but I do know some people who have. But regardless they are a good option to at least try on gear that HM might not carry. And for someone who'd be driving a ways down there, it just makes sense to try both places since they aren't that far apart.
But I understand your disapproval.
You don't find stores or that size in California that aren't filled with douchebags that do their best to avoid doing their jobs.
Howabout that? I went to Giant and they had 0 selection for 2-piece sticks, unless you needed junior left handed Recchi blades and shafts made for Vern Troyer. Drove down to Hockey Monkey shortly after, great selection, nice folks who helped me out. I needed a few random things so I went to Discount Hockey with a guy named Rick working who let me in early( Had to go to work directly after ) and got me what I needed and was a nice guy.
I don't mean any animosity towards you, but I had a less than satisfactory experience at HG and Hawk was great.
I've had bad experiences there but I still think he should try since he's driving down. But I would rather go to HM anyday. Even the shop at Anaheim Ice has a more useful selection of gear than HG. It's rare though that you would find something at giant that monkey won't carry. But there are many things that monkey carries that giant doesn't.
