The boy allegedly molested by a Redondo ice hockey coach is a Hermosa resident. The coach, Daniel Gibb, was released on $100,000 bail Saturday, with arraignment scheduled for Nov. 10. The district attorney of Torrance Superior Court has filed two felony counts of child molestation against him.
Hermosa Beach police arrested Gibb, 31, outside his Redondo Beach home on Thursday after he allegedly admitted the molestation of the male victim, now a teen, during a telephone conversation. The alleged molestation occurred several years ago while the boy was 11, and again when he was around 13.

Putting aside the usual "Burn him/them at the stake" diatribes, I'd be curious to know if this adult-male-coach-sexual-misconduct-with-teenage-boys phenomena skews heavily to the hockey world. I mean, what's the per-capita rate of such incidences compared to other sports?

And, if hockey has a preponderance of them, why is that? I'd guess a lot of it has to do with the remote billets (with lax adult supervision) for 15-to-20 year old junior hockey players, but that's obviously not the case in this particular instance.

hockey is a confined sport in comparison with a lot of others.

1 you wear equipment that requires undressing / dressing rooms / showers

1.5 if your good your generally taken under someones direct supervision to be tutored in the ways of the game (generally unsupervised)

2 you generally are in an enclosed area out of view everywhere you go.

3 I think, for some reason the background procedures for hockey are ****ed up and not stringent like coaching little league or soccer, probably because those leagues like AYSO and Pony baseball have a whole system for qualifying and screening coaches.

That whole deal with david frost had me thinking a lot about this as my daughter is 3 and almost able to ice skate.
