It's not like the Kings didn't know about this rink, they decided it wasn't their business to help maintain it.
Ive been heckled for it more than once, but no one ever says it's wrong.
There is a reason there are more little Ducks fans than ever before and why my club jersey has a D on it.
The Ducks plain and simply have done more to maintain and grow the sport in Southern California than the Kings have. The Ducks have purchased rinks that were in trouble (and a couple that weren't but were not at their best...) and dumped millions into each to upgrade and maintain the facilites. They have stated more than once that if the roller rinks just break even they will open more locations around SoCal. It's not about being a Kings or Ducks (or even Sharks) fan, it's about creating hockey fans in california. Just by seeing the players and the logo and having that exposure everywhere, Im sure Ducks fans will be created by proxy. I have also said that if the Kings ever created a roller club organization to rival that of the Jr. Ducks, my happy tail would make the drive to El Segundo and so would several others. They haven't.
This is the next step, Kings.
we played there for 10+ years...even offered to help pay for the maintenance. I think Luc did talk to them to see what he could do to keep it open.
The guys play in El Segundo (at the park) now instead (others moved up to Marina Del Rey). so sad, was a fun rink to play at for a long time.
btw, it wasn't from a lack of the Kings trying - I believe there were some council members that absolutely didn't want it to be there.
I thought it was already closed.

That sucks. Played there quite a bit as a kid and, while small and slightly warped in places, it was always fun.
Assuming it only got worse, though.
I have faith in the El Segundo one staying open for a while, though. They just repainted the lines and got new nets a couple months ago.
The Kings were only willing to have clinics they had no interest in helping maintain it. I've spoke w/ the city and the Kings. The city for some reason had to have the rink generate revenue or they didn't feel it was worth having.
If anyone here found a stick bag with one stick in it at the Hermosa rink around 2002, that's mine.
I left it behind.
