Even if it is true that wheeled bags don't last as long (I have not noticed this to be the case), I'm willing to invest $60 every 2-3 years in exchange for a drastic improvement in convenience. Hockey is an expensive sport, $20-$30 a year is peanuts.

EDIT: As for the Shock Doctor bag, the thing is HUGE, expensive and I have no idea why you would need it in California. Just take your stuff out after every skate, in this climate it dries in no time at all. If all you had was a dank basement in Wisconsin somewhere, yes, it might be a good idea.

Ive been in plenty of tournaments. Still dont need no damned wheels! mhihi: personal preference.

I have a non wheeled bag for my gear. I figured I'd just suck it up and carry my gear. However, should the Simi rink actually get a womens league going, the first thing I'm buying is a bag with wheels. I've resorted to dragging my non-wheeled bag quite a bit, once from the stairs near the locker rooms to the front stairs at TSC. That thing is heavy!

Plus, having a big heavy gear bag on one shoulder and a fairly large purse on the other is cumbersome.

i had a rolling easton bag that i used for about 5 years. it worked pretty good but started ripping at the bottom from wear and tear. i went back to a regular bag and like it better. it's smaller and lighter but yet i can fit my gear like before. so i guess my old wheel bag was just huge and i didn't need all that space. it's a lot cheaper too.

5 years is a good long time for it to have lasted. A roller bag to me still sounds like the best idea.

You guys obviously know im a bigger guy and thus require larger gear. What size bag do you think is acceptable for me? Some people think a 36" is fine, others say a 40" is a must. Any thoughts? Im going down there on Monday or Tuesday to get one (and elbow and shin/knee pads).

Talked to a guy from Monkey a moment ago and he said a 36" should be fine, but he recomends a 40" just for the extra room. Any second opinions or is the 40" really the way to go?

As I said, I have a TPS Ice Cap wheeled bag. I can't find it online right now, as it's been replaced by a newer model. I'd say it's 40", if not bigger.

First off, a little background on me. I'm a goalie, and I have large equipment. My bag, even filled to capacity (37" leg pads, XL goal pants, glove, blocker, skates, XL chest protector, mask, assorted jeresys, underwear, and supplies) can still fit some more equipment. The bag is ginormous, big enough to fit a couple bodies in (should I need to), can be a pain to lift into the bed of my truck, can be unweildy at times, gets caught in doorways, and takes up a lot of room on the lockerroom floor.

I say all this because, unless you're a goalie with large ass equipment, you DO NOT need a bag that large. It will only get in your way. For me, I like having all my equipment in one bag, so it works for me. But I doubt a bag that large would be practical for you.

Unless you love spending time figuring out how to fit stuff into your bag just right to it all fits, get the 40". My 40" bag is packed. And I'm no goalie.

bigger bags are easier to pack. but just a little harder to fit in doors and cars. but i have a truck so it doesn't really matter to me. but going to a smaller bag did help with maneuverability. however you spell it =P it's like going from a semi to a sports car. just easier to move around without bumping into people and things.
