I really need to get to the range and try to go play a round this weekend. It's been another month since I've even touched the clubs, but I'm going to Orlando in a week and a half and will be playing a couple of rounds there (hopefully for free).

Maybe Sunday I'll hit up someplece local and get a feel for my game again.

    I concur the concurince!

I'm only a nine or 15 hole (Westchester) hack so although I'm obsessed there are no stories you want to hear from me.

My first round of golf ever was at Westchester...

Sometime back in the mid-late 80's using the Orville Wright Junior High School 1960's-70's era clubs.

88 at Westridge in La Habra.

What a day. Apparently, some time on Friday the computer went down at Westridge, and clickforteetimes was unaware. At least that is the story.

We show up for our 10:42 tee time around 10ish or so. The clubhouse told us they were 25 minutes behind. Not too bad. Then we get down to the number 1 tee, and the starter there tells us they are at least one hour behind. People were showing up with Click 4 Tee Times confirmations (which they were honoring) and people with tee time made at the course web site. Guess what. Too many people for the course. They were offering refunds to those who didn't wait, and not that may people took them. The only positive about the wait was that I was told by some (other than the starter) that the course is usually wide open on Saturdays.

We didn't get off until noon (finished at 5:30).

Man, getting there from HB was a bitch. Beach Blvd. sucks ass. It may have been better for me to ride on the 22 to the 57. Took me 45 minutes to get there. Well, on to the course.

I don't know what it is about the courses in that area but the fairways were in poor shape. Big patches of dead grass, hard ground, when there was grass is the fairways it was patchy. I guess the course didn't do too well with the heat a few weeks ago. It looked a lot like Black Gold when I played there last year. Greens were in great shape. They were sanded, but it was enough time had passed, so they were in great shape.

I am such a mental midget. The 480 yd. par 5 18th hole, I only had 200 to the green, maybe 205 to the pin. I decide to go for the green, and top another three wood. One of these days, I will hit my 3 wood with some real consistency.

Does Westridge still have that small practice range area with the mats? Didn't like that the one time I played there probably three+ years ago. I left one of my irons on that course, too. The only other thing I remember was sticking my approach on the first hole to a foot, then crashing and burning for the rest of the round.

I went to the range on Saturday and Sunday and may need to go again before I hit the Orlando Courses on Friday and Saturday. Whenever I don't play for a long time I tend to get my arms and body out of sync and my swing plane gets all funky. After two sessions I think I'm down to just one or two easy swing thoughts, but that can get out of whack again really easily.

Yeah, Westridge has a two tier range with mats only. Not only that, the balls SUCKED. They must buy the softest range balls on the market. I guess it is understandable, as the range is bordered by the #1 fairway and a shopping center and is only 220 yards or so long. However, the balls don't make a normal sound when you hit them. ugh.

    Good luck in Orlando.

I'm right here with you on this one. My fairway woods have significantly improved, but my accuracy with them can be real hot and cold, as was exposed when I played Angeles. I have noticed when I concentrate on really getting a good turn through with my hips (best way I can describe it), that I get much more consistent contact. My main problem now is occasionally pulling the club through late and spraying right. It has been tough though, it is not like hitting a driver, oddly enough, and definitely is not like your irons.

On a side note, my 3-iron has seen less and less use, as I rarely ever make good contact with it anymore, even on the range (my 4-iron as well, for that matter). this kills me, as I loved those clubs. But, my father bought me a Lynx 3-Hybrid for my birthday, which I gave a try with last week. I'll be damned if I wasn't all of a sudden not only consistently hitting a 210-230 yard shot, but up in the air, and straight too. Oddly enough, THIS was easier to hit than my fairway woods as well. Maybe something to consider, if your 3-wood/low-iron distance isn't too far off.

Woot, get to play again today. Try once again to break that damn 80 barrier that's been eluding me.

Well, I have a Taylor Made 3 iron hybrid, which I love. The only issue I have with it is that it goes so god damn high, I have to lose some distance. It is a fairly consistent 200 - 210, with some draw. I do not use Cleveland CG4 3 iron at all. My three wood distance is easily 225, and when flush about 235. So there is a gap.

I am considering rearranging my bag. I currently carry a Taylor Made v-Steel 3 wood, a TM Rescue mid 3i hybrid, CG4 4- PW and 3 more CG11 wedges (50,54,60). It may look like this some time in the future:

    TM R7 3 wood
    Cleveland 2i hibore hybrid
    Cleveland 3i hibore hybrid
    CG4 4 - PW
    Cleveland 52*(or 53*) and 56*(or 57*) wedges.

Of course, that would require a lot of time working with the new wedges to get the distances I would lose by not using the 60*.

Adding the 2i hybrid may give me the 210 - 220 range.

    Good luck today!!!!!!!!!! Lucky bastard!!!!

I'm looking at retooling my bag along the same kind of lines, but figure I'll wait until I go on to the new set of irons. I have a glut of clubs in the 200+ range. 5-iron gives me up to about 205, the new hybrid can fill in that up to it looks like 225-230 (probably closer to 210-220? I'm still finding the range on it), and my 3-wood gives me up to maybe 245-250. I love my 5-wood, but I think it's going to see much less use now, mostly fairway shots with some running room. 3-iron and 4-iron, sadly, will probably be eliminated.

I currently have a standard PW (shoot, I feel like an idiot...what 48 degrees?), and then a 56. I feel pretty good about my 56 from the sand and from about 40 yards in, so I think I will look at maybe a 52 or a 54...something that I can take a full swing with at 80-100, rather than having to force the SW or cut the PW (although I hit a GREAT half-PW).

    I need a new putter too...lol.

How do you like the Clevelands? They are one of the two brands I've been looking at. I currently am using Toski Catalysts, which I love, but I'm considering switching to a lighter cavity back, more blade type club. The others I'm considering are Toski T-54 or T-58.

I think I need a new putter as well. I think I need to spend $400 on it. I mean, the more you spend on a club, the better it will perform, right?????

As far as my Cleveland CG4's, I love them when I hit them. I have had them a year (at the same time I started lessons). The problem is not with the clubs.

When I hit them flush, I can stop anything. It is pretty nice to walk up to the green after a nice 4 iron, and fix the ball mark that is within 2' of where the ball is. I wasn't able to say that with my old set (Pinseeker TPW-III). If yesterday (another lesson) is any indication, I am going to love them more and more. The CG4's are some nice clubs.

Seems like you would be looking at the new CG Reds or the CG1.

Oh yeah, their fitting studio is in Huntington Beach, near Boeing. http://www.clevelandgolf.com/fitting_studio.html

And I do LOVE LOVE LOVE my CG11 wedges.
