I'm in Orlando (Kissimmee, technically, I guess) and about to head out to Falcons Fire. Got an afternoon tee time and need to hit the range for about 2 hours to make sure my game's in shape.
Still have no idea where I'm playing tomorrow, but there's no shortage of courses around here.
Just got back from 4 days of golf at Bandon Dunes.
Unbelievable golf courses.
Played 18 on Saturday, 36 on Sunday, and 18 on Mon & Tues.
If you haven't been there, you gotta go....

One of the great things was having a caddie for every round. These guys carry 2 bags each!

Anyways played a "best ball" event at Coyote hills. I suck at golf 110 swings on 18 holes; & I was the best in our group. We had a few legit birds, but finished 8 over. Now to my bit##-fest. We kept up with the group in front of us. It took 6.5 hours to play the round. We shoot-gun at 8:30AM & finished at 3PM... There were 42 foursomes on the course.
My only tip if you ever organize a large golf event; never more than 36 foursomes on an 18-hole course. Had a few good drives, a few nice approaches...
The course is nice & kept in great shape. The 7th or 8th has a huge drop. If you play the course the front is better than the back.
In the end had a fun time with a bunch of friends. & I need to keep on practicing......

80 at Falcon's Fire... Overall hit them pretty damn good considering the layoff. Seemed to push everything to the right all day long, but that at least eliminated one side of the course for me.
Pretty wide open course, which helped. Lots of mounding. A lot of bunkers, but I only found two, and some water, which I guess I found once. It's weird to have standing water in a grove of trees marked as a lateral hazard... don't get that too much in California.
Identical nines of 40, with a bird, three bogeys, and a double on each. One of the doubles was in the lateral hazard, the other was one of the few possible unplayable lies on the course (bushes).
I'm out to Celebration (I think) in about an hour. We'll see how that goes.
(BTW... 8-6??? What the hell is up with that? I woke up this morning and saw the score before heading over to Hammond and here...)

I played at Wekiva and Sabal Point the last time I was out there (early '90s). Typical Florida courses in the $30 - 40 range back then.

Well, Celebration was much more of a challenge. I don't know what I ended up with because we were playing a little cart vs. cart better ball, but it had to be mid to high 80s.
This course was open in areas, but it made you think about almost every shot, even tee balls. Lots of hazards around the fairways and greens, sometimes on 3 of 4 sides around the green. Lots of undulation on some of the greens, combined with grain, made for some interesting putts.
I'd love to play this place again knowing what I do now. Some of my shots would have been more conservative or favored a different side of the green or fairway. I piped a perfect drive on 18 to the wide part of the fairway, but it went too far and through the fairway into a big outcropping of trees and bushes. I'd aim farther left next time...
Of course, not all my problems were due to the course. The course doesn't make you come down on a wedge so steep that you stub the club and throw fairway mud into your face. That's just plain old talent.
Good fun out here, though. Great weather for Florida, too. Back late tonight...
