SWEET! Those golf forums I was talking about a page or two back...if you submit course reviews, rate golf courses, etc..., you qualify to win a $100 Golfsmith gift card. I just got notified I am a winner for this month! Woot!

Funny enough, I had decided that I was going to look into buying a 52 degree gap wedge to fill the hole between my PW (48 degrees...up to about 130 yards), and my 56 degree SW (up to about 70). Was looking at some of the Titleist Vokey Wedges, since my SW is a Titleist. Unfortunately, with me taking the summer off and already spending money playing golf, I didn't see this purchase flying with the wife. Looks like I lucked out.

    That is nice.

I may be looking at some wedges soon. I may finally make some changes to bag by picking up a 2i hybrid, and then going with a PW (45?), 52 then maybe 58. Right now, I have PW, 50, 54, 60.

oh yeah, and today was my best range day in a LONG LONG time. It only means I am shooting about a 110 at Skylinks tomorrow.

It started very poorly today. Yanked my 3i off the first tee, still had a shot. Missed my 9 iron, and put it in the drink. Double.

2nd hole, EASY par 5.. Hit my drive way right. Trees got in the on the 2nd. Sand on the 4th. Another double.

Yep.. on my way to a 108.. I was able to recover on #3 after a push-slice drive again, saving par. Played pretty consistent the rest of the 9.

    Ended with a 43.

I 3 putted 10, and made a mess of yet another par 5. Saved bogey. I did get a double on the par 5 15th, due to my lack of ability in the sand.

I was able to par 18 from the fairway bunker, and walk out with a 42 on the back.

    85.

Index up to 11.7. Yes, I shoot an 85, and my trend inches UP.

Overall, my driving was not great but passable. Once again my sand play is killing me. I need to figure it out fast.

Thanks for the tips, No One. I used your comments along with the website tips and I think they helped a lot. I was at least pretty sure of where the trouble was and that made me focus on my shots throughout the (long ass) round.

We were going to go out at 12:04, but got delayed to at least 12:30 due to a big tournament thing going on in the morning and a couple of foursomes they wanted to go out ahead of my twosome for some reason. Whatever. It was an excruciating long round. We got finished just before 7pm. Waiting on every single shot. Big backups every hole. The group two in front of us took off around the turn. The group right in front of us took off after #15, so we were left right behind the tourney.

I knew the tourney was a little bit special because I heard early they were playing Ryder Cup style and one team was in the full on Payne Stewart plus-four get up. The front 9 they were playing better ball, the back nine they were head to head. They had a trophy, big old leaderboards, and a lot of people following the late matches. After the final putt, they rushed the 18th green and were jumping up and down while me and my bud were laying down out in the fairway for 10 minutes. I'd never seen anything like it. We were a little pissed off, but not too bad. We had nowhere else to be, and it was kind of interesting. A few of the guys were pretty gracious afterward, saying sorry for the delays and thanking us for being cool about it.

Apparently these guys are all from around Manhattan Beach, and this was like the 6th time they've done this. The guys in the plus-fours retained the cup because the whole thing ended in a tie. Apparently, they've won it twice and retained it four times now... I feel sorry for the team of blue-shirts. They were all turning in their carts and milling about waiting to get into a big white tour bus. Me and my bud were walking out to our cars, when I recognized one of the Payne Stewart dudes. It was Marty McSorley. I had my Kings hat on, and I went over and tapped him on the shoulder and told him it was a pleasure being stuck behind him all day. We talked hockey for a few minutes before I took off, but he was very nice and shared a few comments on the Kings and other stuff. Very cool.

    Next post, my round...

Here are the details that nobody cares about...

#1 - 6 iron to the fairway, baby 56 deg. to 15 feet, horrible 3-putt.
#2 - Driver long, but pushed into the hazard right. Thank God it's all lateral here, no OB. Drop, then a beautiful 4 iron from 240 to the center of the green. 2 putt par.
#3 - 8 iron to the right side of the green, horrible 3-putt.
#4 - 4 iron badly pushed to the right (upper) fairway where you can't see the green. Good thing I was aimed at the left fairway. PW to 8 feet. Missed the putt.
#5 - Beautiful draw 5 iron to 18 feet. Missed the putt.
#6 - Driver scooted into the left rough, 56 deg. to green, 2-putt.
    #7 - Terrible short drive, pushed 4 iron, 56 deg., 2-putt.
#8 - Driver with too much cut, bounced down the hill on the right into a crap lie. Drop. Beautiful 4 iron from 260 (?260? I think that was a crap yardage from the GPS) where I was expecting to run it up onto the green, but instead landed on the green, hit the flag, and went over. 56 deg. to 8 feet, made the par putt.
#9 - 3 wood a bit popped up, 51 deg. GW to bunker, 2-putt bogey.
#10 - Chunkiest 7 iron you've ever seen into the water hazard. It was so short it was in a dry part of the hazard, and I got it cleaner than I thought with my 60 deg. and flew the green. Horrible chip. Horrible 2-putt.
#11 - Low drive into the wind, great position past the tree. 9 iron came up short, 56 deg. to 4 feet, made the putt.
#12 - Huge, straight 385 yd. drive downhill downwind left me 167 to the flag. 9 iron off a downslope hit the green and went over. Too cute with my 60 deg. left me 15 feet and I 2-putted.
#13 - Tough hole into a howling wind. Pretty good low driver, 6 iron that the wind got a bit and pushed left of the green. Delicate chip that I was too delicate with. 2-putt.
#14 - Beautiful 8 iron right at the back flag, but too much club and I was in the back bunker. A little long out of the bunker and a horrible 3-putt.
#15 - Thought the wind would take my 4 iron over the right bunker, but I must have mis-hit it and found the sand. GW long left, great chip to 3 feet, made the putt.
#16 - Drive into the right rough. Can't see crap from there, so hit a good 7 iron to the fairway, and a 56 deg. just a little long and right off the green. Putt to below the front hole location, good putt from 8 feet to save par.
#17 - 3 wood totally popped up, leaving 190 to the back pin. 7 iron a little thin that landed and jumped through. Horrible putt from the fringe, and 2 more to get in.
#18 - Good 3 iron to left fairway, good GW to green, lipped out the putt.

Overall, a good 82. Hit some really good iron shots, especially considering the wind, the never before seen course, and the 6 month layoff. Really need to control my driver and learn how to putt.

Funny... I just found the club website for the guys that were in front of us on Saturday.

    Bro Golf Club

If you go to their Ryder Cup results link on the left, in the picture below their scores you can see my ball on the 18th green...

Well done. But how did you put in the hazard at 10??? I have put it in there, and the first 2 or 3 times I played Oak Quarry, there wasn't any water. Now that you mention it, I think there was water in it the last time I was there.

I may head out there this Friday. I may use Thursday to find a grass range to practice.

(I am in Louisville right now, so I can practice until Thursday).

Yeah... that one took talent! I'm telling you, the hardest part of the round was the long wait between shots. I don't remember how long we were on that tee, but there were some where we were hanging there for 15 minutes getting cold. I'm amazed that I hit anything flush all day.

10 usually is where I have to wait the longest. The longes was about 3 groups, which is problamatic. However, it does give my ass time to eat.

    How were the course conditions?
