88 at Anaheim Hills yesterday
If you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now, quiet! The're about to announce the lottery numbers...
didn't get a chance to finish at Miles Square - Classic.
Was 10 over after 12, then came darkness and a HUGE backup at 13, that we played 11 and 12 again.
I've been on vacation since these scores, so I don't remember that much about the rounds, but I'll try...
8/25 - morning - Trilogy at La Quinta: 83
Horrible putting on horribly sandy and punched greens. Pretty awful display of driving, as well.
8/25 - afternoon - Norman course at PGA West: 82
Horrible putting on relatively good greens. Got a bit better after the front nine, but this is where I lose most of my shots out there. Driver got better later in the day, but this is not the course to be even slightly wide off the tee. No rough... just fairway (narrow on the front side, more forgiving on the back) and native crap area. If you roll off the fairway, you can kick through the rock hard stuff into a bush, a tree, or occasionally back into the fairway.
8/26 - morning - Silver Rock: 78
Through the first six or so holes I was getting absolutely robbed. I was hitting it well only to get bad breaks or putt atrociously on the sandy and punched greens. Things turned around a bit and I started putting a bit better and hitting some really solid shots with my driver and long irons.
Have you ever guessed somebody's gender wrong? There's no recovering from that. You just gotta move on, cause you ain't wriggling outta nothin'.
"Hey, excuse me, sir?"
"Okay." "Okay, bye... bye, human. Bye person. Nice to meet you, individual."
84 - Green River - Riverside course
My drives were AMAZING. I hit 11 of 13 fairways. My approaches, however, have gone away. 3 of 18 greens hit. I have lost some distance and accuracy on my OLD irons. The only saving grace on my approaches were that they were consistent misses, short and usually right. I keep hitting the ball just off the sweetspot, close to the hosel.
I wonder just how BAD I am going to be with my new irons when they show up this week.
Luckily, I had no three putts, and no doubles. Nothing higher than a 6 on the scorecard, and only 28 putts.

I just played Monarch Bay. Had the worst game of my life.
89 Green River - Riverside.
My new clubs should be here Monday, while I am out of town all week. I am thinking a long day at the range on Friday afternoon....
Been reworking my swing since I've started to play a lot more after playing only three or four times a year for about a 6 year stretch. Coming back has been tough, as every new round or range session has been very inconsistant from one day to the next.
Three weeks ago, I thought I turned the corner (have been working on a Couples-like takeaway since I was taking the club WAY too inside when I started playing again) and was striping the ball. Then, out of the blue, I started to get the worst case of the shanks I ever had.
Today I fired a 76 at Skylinks with 4 geniune shanks and hitting balls on the range after the round was absolute shank central. So I called for an emergency lesson immediately after. The next hour and a half was shank upon shank! Nothing worked...moving closer, moving further, shifting my weight, reworking (again) my takeaway, etc.
Finally, I just decided to take the club back EXTREMELY slow and outside (ala Boom Boom) then drop it back into the slot at the top (ala Furyk) and stay within the shot purposely TOO long, actually trying to block my shots to get my downswing on the right path. I started hitting the ball flush and blocking it, just like the drill was supposed to do. After about thirty minutes, the ball was gradually moving from a block to a perfect high draw (thank goodness for muscle memory!)
So I played nine at Recreation Park after the lesson and....34 baby! I'm back!!
God, I love this game!
I wish I had those numbers to report... but it will come, I hope...
Well, I get back from Houston on Friday and call Meadowlark... Guess what.. My clubs are here.. So I pick them up, and take them home and unwrap the beauties..
So my set is now..
Driver - Taylor Made r580xd 8.5*
3 Wood - Taylor Made vSteel
3 Iron hybrid - Taylor Made Resuce mid (do I keep this in the bag???)
3 - PW (new)- Cleveland CG4
50*(new), 54*, 60* - Cleveland CG11
Putter - Odyssey (can't remeber the model)
Range on Friday sucked ass.
Saturday, I play Green River - Riverside (yes, again).. I get out at 41. I was pretty stoked. 5 over with new irons. Then came the back nine. ugh. I couldn't hit the fairway with my drives to save my life, since I all of a sudden developed a massive pull. COuldnt' sink a putt longer then 5 feet on the back. I come in at 51. ****!!! A ****ing 92. Oh well, I still love this game.
Today, range was getting better. I feel I am getting close, and those damn CG4's fell so much better than they old Pinseeker TPW-III's from 2001.
Now, do I drop the hybrid or the 3 iron? Time will tell.

Enjoy the new sticks...the better technology plus the confidence you have with them ought to help a bit, but you still need to practice and pound balls!
We (as in us LGK golfers) need to get some regular games going, yeah?
**** my driver. I have totally lost my ability to drive the ball straight. I must be completelty collapsing my left side on the downswing. I keep yanking the ball left.
92 @ El Toro. A nice 46/46. I MAY have hit 5 fairways yesterday. But damn, when I hit good shots with my new irons it feels so damn good. I just haven't honed them in yet..
Today: Los Serranos South.
