Shot 80 at Simi Hills on Friday (white tees with my dad) I only hit my driver 3 times, 1 (o.b.) 9 (in barranca) and 10 (in lake). That resulted in 5 strokes over par. Put one on the hillside on 13 just barely in bounds with a 3 iron off the tee. Proceeded to shank the next shot out and took an 8. Ouch. Finished the round even, bogey on 16 birdie on 18. The course is in very nice condition and the greens are very nice. It was cheaper than playing my mens club exec, Vista Valencia.
Yes I have another pitch that came with my "package" deal from Golfsmith. I told myself that I wasn't going to invest good money until I get things down. Doing decent at driving, so I bought myself a TaylorMade R9, AWESOME!!. My shortgame is coming along, so I bought myself a TaylorMade Premium Z TP Wedge at a 52 degree. But thats the one I'm not getting good distance from, any suggestions?
How far do you hit the PW?
Do you know the loft of the PW?
Just off the top of my head, there may be a few going on here. MAYBE the most common are:
1) There maybe a significant loft difference between the PW and the 52. Maybe the PW is lofted aggressively, like 42 or 43 degrees?
2) Your swing may be slightly different with the 52 than the PW, where you are trying to help the ball get into the air more with your 52. This "flipping" at the bottom of the swing will cause a loss of distance. I am guilty of this more than I care to admit.
There could be something else, but I can't think of it right now. YMMV, seeing as how I am no where near an expert golfer.
Appriciate the help. My standard wedge, I can hit right around 120 yards, and it puts decent spin on it. The loft on the new TaylorMade is HUGE. I barley hit the damn thing on it pops up 50 feet in the air. Its like I get more loft than distance, if that makes sense.
I'm playing tomorrow for the first time in 6 months... it isn't going to be pretty.
I think it's time to book a tee time. Everyone here can diagnose the 50 yd. 52 degree wedge issue on the range (and completely **** up your swing in the process) before hitting the first tee. :)
YIKES!!! Where? Lakewood, El Do?
True. In the process, I would also **** up my own swing.

I am loving the new shaft in my driver. I took it out to the range yesterday, and was MUCH better than I was with the old shaft on Sunday. There seemed to be much more control with the new shaft. I also found a real golf ball in my bucket, and launched it 3/4 of the way up the back fence at Meadowlark. The limited flight range balls suck ass, and being into the wind rarely (for me) get to the fence.
