I've been to the range three times since August. That's it. No rounds.

I'm not sure where the time goes, but it keeps going...

Dang!! I went back through some older e-mails and found a USGA Index update. Didn't realize they put # of rounds played this year. I played 43 rounds in 2010.

Finally got back out on the course last Saturday before the rain hit. Went to the range on Monday and sucked. Went to the range on Friday and found a little bit of something to build on with the driver, the irons, and more importantly on the greens.

So, anyway, I hit Mile Square with my buddies and played a darn solid round on the Players course. One bogey and 8 pars on the front. A couple of bogeys on 11 and 12 before stuffing my approach to 2 ft. on 13 and making a birdie. I made my one (two) really big mistake(s) on the par-3 16th to triple-bogey the hole. Everything else was a par. Add it all up to a 77.

The big thing for me was 29 total putts and no three-putts... and while I didn't make anything outside of 10 feet, I hit a lot of good putts overall and did make a basically every 5-8 footer I had.

Ecstatic to do that after 6 months off.

Played at Mile Square again last Sunday. Didn't really get to the range during the week like I like to, plus I had (have) a strained neck from something or other. I tried to just keep things simple and swing a bit shorter, and overall it worked pretty well. A bunch of pars again on the front to go with two bogeys.

I started off the back with a mis-hit 4-iron that ultimately led to a double. Had some more bogeys as I just sort of lost my mojo for a bit. Pushed a 3-wood into the water off one of the tees. Pulled an iron into the water on an approach. Didn't really make a single putt outside of gimme range... maybe a few 4-footers, but that's it.

Finally birdied the 17th with a good drive into the wind, a good choked down 3-wood into the wind to the middle of the green, and an easy two putt. Then I parred 18, and finished with a 79.

Going out again this weekend. This is now as often as I've played in a good 2-3 years.

My score keeps going up by two shots every time I go out. Maybe I need to shut her down for a bit.

No birdies today. Couldn't make a putt to save my life (again). Had a lot of really mediocre or poor chip shots. Completely lost my swing from off the tee for a while. I mean, seriously ugly, and no real idea what I was doing wrong either. It was strange. Still, was able to walk away with an 81.

Let me call this "No One's Slump of 2011". Work and weather put a serious crimp in my practice schedule, and man does it show.

In March, my scores were 85 at Mile Square Classic, 87 at Skylinks, 94 at Los Serranos South, and a no play on the 26th. April started with a bang (88 at Green River). I could have scored better if I could get off the tee. I am too dependent on decent tee shots to score, since my putting has decided to take a permanent vacation. Seriously. My pace is SHOT. I leave 12' putts 3 - 4' long, then 3 - 4' feet short.

On Saturday, after a LONG wait at Mile Square, they put my dad and I on the Classic. Somehow, someway my drives aren't as wayward as they have been for 2011. My putting still left some to be desired, however I was able to dial some of them in. Missed 2 30'+ putts by INCHES. Of course, I yank a 7' birdie putt on 9 after being 15 yards short in 2. I also missed a 12'' birdie putt on 18 (on the lip). The highlight of the round was 17 (450yd. Par 4, into the wind). After hitting a drive too high (into the wind), I was 225 or so from the green. I was able to miss the green to the left, but was pin high. The ground around 17 was HARD, and I hit what I thought was a PERFECT chip. I hit it short of the green, but it THUMPED on the bounce and went by about 15'. I did sink the putt.

The lowlights of the round were: 1) Dug a 9 iron about 3 inches behind the ball, for about a 25 yard shot on 12 (2) Dug a 5 iron about 3 inches behind the ball on 6, and (3) Dug my hybrid about 5" behind the ball on the tee at 15 (barely made it past the white tees).

    Carded a slick 80.
