Played Mile Square Classic for the first time in a LONG time yesterday. Didn't make a putt all day... I'm talking literally I think I made one 5-6 footer, and that was the longest one I made. I had two 3-putts. Luckily I hit it hole high on both par-5s on the front and made birdies to turn in 39. I started off the back 9 with three straight double bogeys as a result of a bad break and some crappy shots. After that I hit it really solid and parred my way home for an 81.

I felt especially good on the 17th, a 450 yard par 4 back into the wind. For those last 6 holes, I hit some of the most solid shots I've hit in quite a while. Great ball flight, trajectory, distance control (except for the couple of shots where I sucked donkey balls). Just wish I could have made something on the greens. But, I think I may have found something with my distance control on the last few holes at least. I'm hoping I can keep that feel into my next round, and maybe I'll get lucky hitting my lines.

    Bridgstone Tour B330S >>>> Nike 20Xi-S

So, in case you were not in RH a month ago, I quit smoking.. and let me tell you, the first three rounds without cigarettes were tough. Only one round (the first) did I score well.. 84 @ Los Serranos North. I followed that up with an epic 89 on the Players at Mile Square, and then a 90 at Tustin Ranch. I think the mental part of the game was the issue. During that first round at Los Serranos, I would bitch and moan about every shot. It did get better, but I think I was still gripping more than normal for those last two rounds as well.

I was cruising around nicely at Skylinks yesterday.. after a birdie on 14 I was +2 for the round. YES!!! Then, I start my explosion going double, quad, bogey. I par 18 for a nice 81 (posted 79, thanks ESC).

I did pick up a new Nike Method Core 3i putter on Friday night, and it is much heavier than my Cleveland VP1-09. I didn't make a ton of putts outside of a few feet, but I was lagging muuuuuuuch better and almost sunk some 15 - 20 footers. Now if I could develop some distance control!!!

    Highlights of Saturday-

    1) First round that felt "normal" emotionally. No cravings, no bitching after EVERY shot (good or bad), more confidence.
    2) 10 fairways and 10 greens. (Bombed a drive on 18!!!)
    3) ZERO Three Putts. I can't remember the last time that happened.

    Lowlights

    1) Hole 16 - Quad. 8 iron in the water, 2 BAD chips, and 2 putts.
    2) Hole 15 - In front of the green in 2, and chunk 1 chip then blade the next.

Oh well, 81 keeps me at 8.1.. I just need to break 80 two or three times in a row before I can get over that mental hurdle I guess.

I shot a 91 today at El Prado Chino Creek course. thats my best score on that side. 3 wood and putting were terrible. first time with nothing worse than a double bogey.

I shot a 89 at Coyote Creek in Fullerton. nice course but not worth the 125.00 green fees.
they do have specials via e-mail that make it more reasonable. plus side is it's not crowded.

since my last round, I practiced exactly zero times.. Instead of golfing on the 27th I was hanging out on my uncles lakes in Ohio. So, on the third I drop a cozy 88 at Mile Square.

I couldn't do one damn thing right.. okay, one. I made an 18 foot birdie putt on 9.

    Mile Square Players on 9/10:
Distance control wasn't very good on my approach shots, so I didn't have a lot of makeable (for me) looks on the green. I did make one long putt on #4, where my wedge landed about 3 feet from the flag and proceeded to spin back 25-30 feet. I told the hole to **** off after that putt went in. That's what it gets for rejecting my initial shot. Of course, a bunch of other holes rejected my shots for the rest of the day. I have no grooves left on my wedges, yet I got more spin that day than I had in a long time. Don't know what was up with that.

Shot a 39-41=80, with a stupid 3-putt bogey on the last. My only 3-putt of the day, but still, I don't think 33 putts really cuts it on tour. I guess I'll need to work on that before I turn pro.

86 @ Eagle Glen on Saturday.. ugh.

So, Eagle Glen was playing as easy as I have ever seen it on Saturday. Most of the tee boxes were WAY up, as they are overseeding the tee boxes. My drives, for the most part, were on. I hit 9 of 14 fairways, but at 2 of those misses were just off. I think I hit 9 greens. However, I took 36 putts with 4 three putts. The biggest reason? Distance control. Some of the green there are large, so distance control is a must and man, did that suck. Totally ruined what could have been a great day, as I was driving the ball well, and also striking the ball well from the fairway. I just couldn't capitalize.

Need more range time (and putting green time)

No ****! Keep it up, No One!

(Although, I could go for 1800 cigarettes right about now...)
Does that seem totally disgusting to you yet? Do you feel great knowing you haven't consumed 1800 unnecessary things? If not, you should!
