Burns helps Sharks stop 4-game skid
Burns put his artwork on display at HP Pavilion, scoring the game's first goal and assisting on what proved to be the game-winner after stripping an All-Star defenseman in the process. San Jose snapped a four-game losing streak (two coming in overtime) by handing the defending Stanley Cup champs only their fourth loss in 13 games. Burns stripped Kings defenseman Drew Doughty just inside the Los Angeles zone and broke in alone before feeding Logan Couture to cap a 2-on-0 break 47 seconds into the final period. The Sharks cashed in on a retaliation penalty to score consecutive power-play goals less than two minutes apart for a 3-o lead in the second period and took a 3-1 lead into the final period. Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin was hit with instigation and fighting with a visor after coming to the aid of teammate Colin Fraser, who got hammered with a clean, hard check behind the Los Angeles net by Sharks' fourth-line forward Andrew Desjardins. Rookie defenseman Matt Irwin one-timed a Scott Gomez cross-ice feed, a shot that seemed to fool Kings goalie Jonathan Quick at 7:07.
