CALGARY — Like elite golfers, those who grip a hockey stick for a living learn to leave the last one behind. Whether brilliant or brutal, dwelling on what happened yesterday can ruin the next day. And as much as the Vancouver Canucks opened a five-game road trip with a late charge for a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, their effort was much like what might occur on a Masters scorecard: a couple of bogeys, some birdies, and staying ahead of the pack for a fifth consecutive Northwest Division title.
