NHL 3 Stars: Shutouts for Lehtonen, Holtby, but they didn’t score, so we’re not impre
Alex Tanguay offers "human toboggan" rides during a game between the Flames and Predators.
No. 1 Star: Kari Lehtonen, Dallas Stars
The Stars were outplayed bigtime in this one, outshot 2-1 by the Los Angeles Kings, with Lehtonen facing 40 shots while Jonathan Quick only faced 21. Fortunately for the Stars, Lehtonen was unbeatable, stopping all 40 for the shutout in a 2-0 win.
No. 2 Star: Nazem Kadri, Toronto Maple Leafs
Kadri continued his incredible tear, scoring his 12th and 13th goals -- the second of which was the game-tying goal -- in the Leafs' 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
He added an assist for his eighth multi-point game of the year and his second three-point night of the year.
No. 3 Star: Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals
Holtby made 20 saves for his fourth shutout of the season in the Capitals' 4-0 win over the division-leading Winnipeg Jets. If the Holtby and the Caps can do it again Friday night, they'll be within 5 points of top spot in the Southeast.
Honourable mention: Until the Carolina Hurricanes ruined everything by scoring a late goal in their 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils, Martin Brodeur was on his way to a shutout in which he also scored the game-winning goal. So close... P.K. Subban scored twice in the Montreal Canadiens' 5-2 win over the New York Islanders... Jacob Markstrom stopped 44 shots from the New York Rangers to help the Florida Panthers to a 3-1 victory... Washington also got a three-point night from Alex Ovechkin. Look at how wide open he is on this goal:
He's still Ovechkin, Florida. You might want to check him... In a game where Keith Ballard was playing on the third line, Cory Schneider had to come up big for the Vancouver Canucks and he did, making 33 saves in a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes... Dennis Seidenberg scored the game-winner in the Boston Bruins' 2-1 triumph over the Ottawa Senators... Christian Ehrhoff had a three-point night in the Sabres' win... Mike Fisher had 2 goals as the Nashville Predators knocked off the Calgary Flames, 5-3.
Did you know? The Bruins have now won 11 straight games in Ottawa, and 19 of 20 versus the Leafs and Senators. They love Ontario.
Dishonourable mention: It'll be a busy day at the Department of Player Safety tomorrow. Rick Nash is probably going to get suspended, and Alex Edler will get a phone call, at the very least... Holtby and Lehtonen may have registered shutouts, but did they score? No. No they did not.
