NHL Three Stars: Henrique’s two-goal night; Kipper bests Red Wings (PuckDaddy)
No. 1 Star: Adam Henrique, New Jersey Devils
A three-goal first period doomed the Philadelphia Flyers as the Devils won 5-2, their third win in four games. Henrique scored one of those opening period goals, assisted on Patrik Elias' fourth and added a second on the power play early in the third period.
No. 2 Star: Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames
A three-goal third period broke a 2-2 tie as the Flames won their fifth straight at the Saddledome with a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Kiprusoff made 36 saves for only his third win since Jan. 26.
No. 3 Star: Lars Eller, Montreal Canadiens
After blowing a 3-1 second period lead, the Canadiens held off an Ottawa Senators comeback to win 4-3 after a shootout. Eller opened the scoring with his fourth of the season in the first period and then tallied the game-deciding goal in the shootout as the Habs won their fourth straight.
Honorable mention: Andrei Loktionov tied a career high in goals with his fourth and tied his career best in points with a two-point night. His goal came via a pretty toe-drag:
... Elias' goal was No. 370 for his career ... The Devils have won all three meetings with the Flyers this season ... The last time New Jersey scored at least four goals in a game was Feb. 15 vs. Philadelphia ... The collision of the night goes to Anton Volchenkov and Wayne Simmonds:
Carey Price made 29 saves for his league-leading 14th win ... The home team has won every game this season between the Senators and Canadiens.
Did you know? Valtteri Filppula's power play goal in the second period snapped an 0-for-37 streak away from home for the Red Wings. Detroit had gone 69 minutes and 20 seconds without a road power play goal, and the longest stretch to start the season since the 1928-29 Detroit Cougars. [NHL.com]
Dishonorable mention: Detroit lost their third in a row ... Ilya Bryzgalov afterward: "To be honest, I have no idea what to say to you guys. Just tired [of] losing, tired losing. I have no emotions right now."
