RED WINGS 2, SHARKS 1Detroit first-year sensation Damien Brunner scored the only goal of a shootout at HP Pavilion on Thursday night to give the Red Wings a 2-1 comeback win over San Jose, which finished the second month of the lockout-shortened season with a 2-6-4 record.Detroit, playing for the second time in two nights, snapped a three-game road losing streak and beat the Sharks in San Jose for only the third time in its last 12 tries.San Jose had only one power play, a late second-period opportunity that was cut short after 42 seconds when Marleau bowled over Gustavsson for goaltender interference.The Sharks finished the month with three power-play goals in 52 chances.Antti Niemi didn't have much of a book on Brunner, who has scored 10 goals in his first 21 NHL games.Joe Thornton forced Detroit's Justin Abdelkader into a turnover and then fed Couture for a one-timer from the right circle.
