Sharks beat Avalanche in shootout, 3-2
San Jose extended a regular-season unbeaten streak to 13 games against Colorado, but needed the shootout to do it on Tuesday night to win for only the second time in 11 games. Center Mark Olver was credited with the goal, his second of the season, after video review showed his shot crossed the goal line under the crossbar. James Sheppard, who started on the third line, skated from behind the Colorado net and threw a backhand pass across the crease where former Av TJ Galiardi poked his first goal of the season past Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov at 2:55 to break a 1-1 tie. The Sharks' struggling power play was 0-5 despite putting 15 shots on goal during 9:48 of 5-on-4 time. San Jose is mired in a 3-for-51 slump on the power play over the last 11 games.
