With Cam Ward out for the rest of the regular season, Justin Peters and Dan Ellis have taken over Carolina Hurricanes goaltending duties. It’s a hell of an opportunity for Peters, the 26-year-old netminder who was rolling in the AHL before his call-up.
In his first start in place of Ward, he made quite an impression. At least on Thomas Vanek of the Buffalo Sabres, in the second period:
That was grand larceny right there. Peters stopped 37 shots as the Hurricanes defeated the Sabres, 4-3.
As the Canes told WRAL earlier this week, it’s Peters’ moment:
"Petey's played games here so it's not that crazy for him," said Hurricanes captain Eric Staal. "We know what he brings to the table."Not a bad way to begin – robbing one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL.
"Now is his chance," said head coach Kirk Muller. "He's had a great first half down in Charlotte. He's been playing really well, so he should have confidence."
