For people who are thinking we have a ready-to-go NHL backup in Manchester, it isn't Martin Jones these days.
Jones is currently 7-13-2. Has a 2.63 GAA. The back up, Peter Mannino is 7-3, 2.00 GAA. Jones isn't even in the top-20 in the league. This is a guy who's in his 3rd year in the A, no longer has competition for the starting job (Zatkoff gone), and his season has been disappointing. If he's not cutting it in Manchester, what makes you think he'd be better filling in for Quick? Not to mention the scenario if Quick's injured and Jones takes over the #1 role.
It's best to hang onto Bernier.
Thats a fun lineup to look at, considering we steamrolled to the cup without Gagne and Penner sucking balls most of the time. I actually just got excited again :)
OP roster makes me wonder if Clifford could win draws and shut down the likes of pac divison #1line Centers: Getzlaf 6'5", Thornton 6'5", Hanzal 6'4".....
I like Cliffords size and grit up the middle more than I ever liked Fraser ( I know, I know, integral piece and all..but) even if it pulls Clifford off the biards where he excells...it would free him up more for that beatiful wrister on the flipside.
Nolan will be in Manchester to play premium minutes, as long as Clifford is healthy.
I think that pretty much ends the suspense, except how the whole Gagne/Penner/King thing shakes out in "camp".
Looks like its time to trade some assets for draft picks. Sooner or later the players from Manchester will need to be called up.
Bernier stays.
I think it's a little too early to be discussing who is going to be bought out. A CBA deal is not even done yet. From what I have understood of the negotiations is that the cap would remain at 70 mil this year then drop to 60 mil next year. If that is the case then the Kings would not have to get rid of anyone under contract. The Kings have Gagne, Penner, Richardson, Scuderi and Drewiski all of whom become are UFA's after this season.
