Absolutely right. Look at the deal Marian Gaborik just signed -- for a term probably beyond his productive playing years. (Not everyone's Teemu.)

I don't think Stoll will be resigned unless he 1) regains the wrist shot that won all those shoot outs circa 2012 or 2) accepts $2 million a year on the fourth line.

Williams will not be resigned unless he tears it up this year or (with a meh year that is not on par with Pearson) tears up the playoffs. So in my opinion, it'll be after playoffs next year before we get anything on this front. I do think he will eventually get resigned.

Kopitar's deal will be in the 8million range, but the most important number is cap hit and we might see a 10 year contract that starts 8.5 million but ends in a few years of 4.25 million for AAC reduction.

Here is something I have noticed about the players DL brings in. Most of the forwards have a style that can translate on any of the 4 lines. While it is not ideal to have a 4-5 mil player taking 3 or 4 line mins, it may be valuable in the mentoring process.

The reason I mention this is because signing a stoll or williams or even a kopitar into their later years does not mean they will not have value in the franchise in those years.

I really hope that Williams isn't the casualty of Brown and Richards' long term deals.

I believe it is extremely wishful thinking to expect him not to get a raise.

    Malkin 9.5
    Crosby 8.7
    Giroux 8.275
    Staal 8.25
    Getzlaf 8.25

Paul Stastny just signed for 7/per. Toews will reportedly be asking for 10+.

Kopitar should absolutely get something in the 8.0-8.5/per range.
Definitely agree with this, and I bet Dean has that included in his long term plan.

Vey kind of got passed on the depth chart by Nick Shore is what I have heard.

While I would normally agree if we were talking about a player that was 27-29 years of age, Stoll will be 33 at the end of next season. The organization really can't afford to lose a player that they have developed that is capable of replacing him or Richards adequately, yet doing it for a lot less cap hit.

I would love to have at least a month after all of the leagues July 1st signings before I have to stomach more trade/extension talks...because we just won the cup. That's just me...I don't want to think about what ifs and the end of next year...that's what Deano has to do. I want to party like it's 2012!

Do I want both of them retained? Hell yes. Heck, if I ran the team there would probably be a bunch of middle aged former legends on the team!

Kopitar's cap hit has been 6.8mil. I'm willing to bet it goes up just north of 8mil on his next contract.

And it's fair to say (and I don't think anyone is implying otherwise) that he has earned every darn penny of that $6.8 million the past three seasons.
