Default 2014-15 is the last year for STOLL&WILLIAMS--Should DL try to extend them 1 year NOW?

    Just 1 season.

IMO, He could do this right now in 2014 perhaps, and save himself some scrambling in summer, 2015
when their contracts are both up, and a bunch of other players' contracts have to be dealt with.

    Salaries would stay the same.

I could be wrong, but I bet they'd do it.

And it would buy us 1 more season for our FW prospects to come along.

Why would Williams or Stoll sign a one year extension?

This is the thing. I doubt either guy would want just one year. Before deciding on extending them, see how this season looks.

You are correct. Unless they are Daniel Alfredsson's age neither is going to take a one year deal. I know I wouldn't

Both Williams and Stoll are 32 now and will be 33 when their contracts expire. Matt Greene is 31 (approximately 11 months younger than Stoll) and just signed a 4-year deal. Why would you think either Williams or Stoll would be willing to sign only a one year extension? You can bet both will be looking for 3-4 year deals after their current contracts expire.

As for whether DL should start this process now, I imagine he is well aware of whose contracts are expiring and when and when is the appropriate time to start discussions about extensions, and his judgment on that subject is far more sound that anyone's here.

Both guys are going to want 3-4 year deals. I hope DL is able to get them to sign 2 years, but more likely, it'll take 3..

Question will be cap hit. We dont how what the cap will end up being next year. Signing these guys now is risky, considering we need to keep room for some combination of our other RFA's (and we'll have quite a few), plus Martinez who will be UFA and replacing Regehr.

Depending on how the season plays out, if Richards is able to regain form and basically become the #3C , I can see us moving Stoll at the deadline and letting Lewis center the 4th line

unfortunately, we'll probably lose one of them. I hope we don't lose both.

Both will be re-signed to multiple year deals.

I think DL will come up with a contract similar to Gaborik where they'll get money but it will cap friendly and if they retire or we buyout it won't hurt us. Something like that.

When I look at what the Kings have in the pipeline, I don't see how Lombardi hangs on to both Stoll and Richards.

Unless the salary cap rises dramatically, Dean is going to have a difficult time fitting everyone under the cap, and at some point room has to be made for one or more of the kids. Also, Kopitar is going to get paid.

Stoll and Richards are playing for a spot on the roster in 2015-2016 next season IMO. I once heard that the Kings and Williams were already talking about an extension, but there has been radio silence on that front ever since the initial rumor came out.
