2015 Restricted Free Agent Contract Speculation
I've just done a lot of research regarding the contracts that Restricted Free Agents receive, and I've learned absolutely nothing that would help me estimate the types of offers that our upcoming crop of RFA's should expect. How can I be an insufferable Armchair GM if I can't have decent guesstimates for their potential future cap hits? Toffoli and Pearson's reputation/potential seem to far exceed their actual stats. Their age/lack of full regular season experience would suggest that they will receive shorter-term bridge deals, but do we need to throw Blake Wheeler money at them if they have 50-point seasons? Do other teams see Jones as a backup? Who would be worthy of an unmatchable offer sheet from other teams?
Restricted Free Agents as of 7/1/15:
(I'll assume all current non-roster players would be signable for a negligible cap number)

Given Lombardi's track record, I probably wouldn't pay too much attention to what other RFAs are getting, or what other GM's are doing. Instead, i'd look at not just the RFAs, but the UFAs as well. Then figure out what your top guys are likely to get, what the cap is at, and work backwards, bridging your way as much as possible to fit as many of your top guys under the cap as you can.
Lombardi loves spread sheets and the big picture, so looking at any one guy in a vacuum may not be the best approach. Some here have argued that guys like Pearson and Toffoli may see fairly large contracts as RFAs, but i think what they actually receive will depend entirely on what the cap is at, and who needs to be sign (which i really havent looked at). If Lombardi can afford to sign them long term for fair value, he will. If he needs to bridge his way out of short term crunch, he'll go that route. The team is finally at a point where guys really want to be here, and Lombardi has generally shown to be pretty fair and agreeable to guys that show loyalty. So I don't think he'll have too much of a problem navigating his way through this, at least to the point where we start losing top talent. A guy like Nolan or Clifford may not make the cut, but i think that's something the team can live with.
What i'm saying is, I have no idea what the numbers will be right now =D

2015 Restricted Free Agent Contract Speculation
I think DL will decide this year who he wants to lock up long term and who he doesn't. My guess is Toffoli, Pearson and Muzzin get longer term deals while the others will be offered shorter term deals.

Well Toffoli's dad just got a Kings tattoo, so hopefully that helps with the contract negotiations.

We gotta figure out what we're gonna pay these guys and sign them, because...that's our job here.
We better hurry up and do it, or else someone else might sign them, then you'll all look stupid.
Why we didn't buy out Richards is beyond me.
You guys need to do a better job.

Jones doesn't have the pedigree Bernier had, and Bernier didn't make much or fetch much in a trade. Unless he absolutely takes the job from Quick in a bizarre sequence of events, he's making about a mil at most. Probably 800k ish.
I don't think Pearson or Toffoli will have played enough games to really do damage to the cap unless there are monster seasons ahead for either or both. I'm a little worried about Muzzin because he could possibly ask for Voynov's contract being 2 years away from UFA.

Sorry people, but you didn't check with Bogey first to see what would be appropriate conversation in the offseason. He clearly doesn't approve so...thread closed.

I think you do your best to keep the first three guys on your list.
Muzzin played like chit the last two seasons, he was Dustin-Penner-inconsistent. But you look at the guy that played those last 26 games and he looked like Lidström out there (they both shoot left, close enough). As for Toffoli and Pearson, you've got Williams's and Gaborik's eventual replacements. I think you do everything in your power to keep both of them without breaking the bank, of course.
Let's not forget Regehr, Williams and Stoll are coming off the books as well. I'm guessing Dean wants to keep the two forwards, and I'm hoping Regehr's money gets relocated to Marty's wallet. But the most important contract, is Kopitar's.
Not worried though. Dean will figure it out. He'll give Nolan a 10 year contract and let Pearson walk or something that seems idiotic but will win us a Cup.

You clicked on this post knowing full well you were going to crap on it. That's what you do. That is your role on this board 95% of the time.

If the discussion is so beneath you (which it clearly is), why not just don't click on the post?
