30 Thoughts: Many GMs feel trade deadline too inflationary | Hockey | CBC Sports21. Last week, Tim Leiweke was deposed at president and CEO of AEG, parent company of the Los Angeles Kings, the Galaxy, the Staples Centre, etc., etc. It's a massive conglomerate. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is looking for a new CEO. Is he interested? The belief is yes, but it's hard to quantify how serious it is and how MLSE compares to other offers he might be getting. Leiweke and Dean Lombardi didn't always see eye-to-eye, but they did find enough common ground to bring the franchise its first Stanley Cup since...1967.
The LA news was talking about it tonight... CBS to be exact. They were saying this move could be a sign that the NFL stadium will happen after all.
The NFL wants to come back to LA, but at someone else's expense.
Uncle Phil won't build Farmer's Field unless he has a majority ownership position in the team itself. The old boys club in the NFL doesn't have any owners that want to sell or pay for building their own stadium in LA. In this economy good luck to the NFL in finding a taxpayer funded stadium in Southern California. I don't see it happening. That leaves them with Uncle Phil and finding an owner in the NFL that is willing to sell a 51% interest in his team.
Bottom line...if building a state of the art NFL stadium is such a great investment, then maybe the NFL should build it.

A source close to TFP conveyed on Tuesday that the circumstances around Leiweke's departure were not, as the AEG release stated, under "mutual agreement."
The source went on to say that Leiweke was blindsided by the decision to relieve his of duties and since the dismissal he has been on the hunt for a new executive role in the sports and entertainment world -- and not necessarily in the lower 48 states. The Fourth Period :: Toronto Maple Leafs :: Sources: Leiweke meeting with MLSEMaple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, still on the search for a CEO to replace Richard Peddie, would be a match for the executive in terms of status and financial wherewithal. According to a second source, Leiweke was in Toronto on Tuesday. With MLSE in an active search for Peddie's successor, his travel schedule appears to be far from random.
The source went on to say that Leiweke's travels won't stop at the Air Canada Centre, though, as it appears New York is next on the itinerary with a scheduled sit-down with James Dolan and the executive team at Madison Square Garden.
The interesting snippet in that article:
Leiweke was a hands-on executive who had final say on many transactions, including the acquisition of Jeff Carter and blocking a trade involving Kings captain Dustin Brown at last year's deadline.
I don't think he actually blocked a trade. Bernstein is just reporting on how Leiweke promised Brown the rumors weren't true. I think you can see that in the KingsVision webcast.
