    They're trying to keep in shape in case there is a season. Sure it sucks that there are some guys having to play in lower leagues because of it. But pro sports unions aren't like unions for coal miners or truckers where unions are needed to fight for safe working conditions.

    People might complain that people are staying in shape by playing overseas, people complaining Martinez might be hurt overseas, and then you have people complaining Brad Doty looks like a whale. There is no pleasing everyone.

    So why unionize then? For fair pay? I understand the need to stay in shape but if all of the league's players are united and dont play elsewhere, they can still work out in the gym or on the ice together. Then they all would be starting said "season" (shortened or not) on the same level as everyone else. Guys dont go play in some other 2bit league during the nhl's offseason do they? No they rest and work out on their own.

    Look i just fear losing one of our guys long term or forever. I know its hockey and theres just as much risk of it happening in an nhl game, but if these guys are fighting over money they believe they earned, you would think they wouldnt risk their ability to continue earning the large sums of money they do now.

    Just sayin. Hope alec makes a fast and full recovery.
