It actually increases it for every team. Including the western ones.
I live in Florida and watch every Kings game.
I moved here from LA in 2006. Fans will watch their teams no matter what time zone they are in.

The "Pacific" (Smythe) and "Midwest" (Norris) divisions mostly make sense. The "Central" division does not. I would do it this way:

    Smythe
    Kings
    SJ
    Anaheim
    Phoenix
    Vancouver
    Calgary
    Edmonton

    Norris
    Colorado
    Dallas
    Winnipeg
    Minnesota
    St. Louis
    Nashville
    Chicago
    Columbus

    Patrick
    Detroit
    Pittsburgh
    Philadelphia
    Washington
    Carolina
    Tampa Bay
    Florida

    Adams
    New Jersey
    NYR
    NYI
    Boston
    Buffalo
    Montreal
    Ottawa
    Toronto

This would have 15 teams in each "conference," which I think makes more sense than a 16/14 split (although I haven't thought about how it might impact scheduling).

I don't know that I really care whether the playoffs are top 3 in each division plus 2 wildcards or top 4 in each division.
thank you. i also don't understand how it would be bad for the kings to sport a midwest banner in the playoffs? ****s confusing. i like it how it is right now, just flip winnipeg and columbus or move winnipeg over.

Some fans, yes. All fans, no. Plus my point was about growing the game. A person who wants to give hockey a chance is more likely to do so if the games are on at a reasonable time.

Division banners have always been regular season based. The Kings would never have a Midwest banner.

Read something awhile back that Columbus would not vote for a plan that separated them from Detroit. The 4 games a year Detroit comes to town are apparently their biggest ticket, and they are only like 3 hours apart.

As for the existing plan, seems like Carolina should be switched with one of the northern teams in the Central

Probably never figured Boston or Montreal would have a Central Division banner either.

That name needs to change. There are no central teams in that division.

    And the Pacific gets Seattle.

There's already a building in KC and Seattle is trying to get the Sacramento Kings via a brand new state of the art basketball/hockey arena so... an NHL team would certainly help them fill that arena 41 (or more) nights out of the year.
Seattle and KC would be no surprise given the NHL's "great" success with expansion cities. I mean, we all know KC was a resounding success last time the NHL went there (just like Atlanta!). And the fact those two cities are FAR more viable that another team in Toronto or Quebec. Give me a break.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The NHL has NO business whatsoever expanding. Period. Move teams to where they are sure to be a success not going into the vast wasteland of KC....I swear the NHL is run by idiots.

I agree.... but tons of people said that the last time they expanded and last time I checked the League has never been more profitable. You may not think that they have the best interests of "entertaining hockey" or "the fans" in mind... but one thing they are not, is idiots.
