Thread: Anyone know the story behind...

I've heard in the past that Barry Potomski pounded the piss out of Dmitri Khristich. I've even heard that teammates supported Potomski for the most part. However, I'm not sure I ever heard why, or if I did I don't remember. Anyone happen to know the story behind this? I'm sure there must be one. Typically, you don't have your enforcers pounding your scorers, so there must have been a reason.

I vaguely remember that Potomski smacked Khristich in the face with a stick during the fight, which ended up knocking Khristich out of the lineup for a bit. I can't really remember the reason why the fight occured, other then there was an altercation during practice and the two went at it. Thinking back, I can only remember the injury because so many of the Kings players were hurt at the time, the loss of Khristich to such a stupid injury seemed like the hockey gods were just piling it on.

On another note, didn't Potomski die a few years back?

Ah, the mid to late 90's. An era I would much rather forget about when it comes to Kings hockey. This story doesn't ring a bell.

He died in 2011.

I was really shocked when Barry passed away. Not only was he young, but I had no idea he was living here.

I only remember Khristich was labeled a locker room cancer at the time. I don't really remember the hearing about the fight though. Didn't DK come over from Washington with Byron Dafoe for a 1st round pick or something?

Sorry to hear about Potomski...the article didn't say but it sounds like maybe a heart attack. I wonder if it was attributed to his on-ice play like Probert et al.

I'm sure it was a response to something Khristich said or did.
The guy was supposed to be an ass, but man could that boy skate... really entertaining to watch.

Khristich and Dafoe did come over in the same trade. Interesting fact is that they both left in the same trade as well. Both guys were sent in the same trade to Boston for Jozef Stumple and (I think) Sandy Moger.

I wonder the last time Sandy Moger came up on this site.

I remember this. There was a blurb about in the Kings section of the Hockey News. It was something like... A surprising fight broke out between Potomski and Khristich but perhaps what was more surprising was the fact that no one on the Kings team came to Khristich's defense or even checked if he was ok after it happened.
