Default Attn: South OC - best freeway route to Staples in weekday traffic?

I've generally avoided driving from my house in Lake Forest to Kings games on weekdays due to the traffic. I work in Long Beach so I've generally just gone from work or met with some buds from Torrance, but that won't be possible this year so I'm looking for recommendations on the best route to Staples. Take the 5 all the way? Yuck!? Cut over on the 91/105 to the 605, 710 or 110? Any STM's know the best route for the quickest commute?

And how long does it generally take you?

Is carpool possible? I get to games quicker on the 5 during the week than I do on a Saturday.

I always flew up the 405 in the carpool lane to the 110. Wouldn't recommend it if not in the carpool lane, though.

I live in south OC and used to take the 91 up. It was always easier.

I think your best bet is 105w to 110n. both have carpools. I try to avoid 5 at all costs

Get a GPS with live traffic.

There's been more than one occasion coming up from Fullerton that I've taken side streets the whole way to LA and got there faster than my friends on the freeways.

Used to live in Fullerton. I would take the 91 to 605 and then get back on the 5. You hit some traffic on the 5 going through Commerce but it's a pretty direct route and usually not bad. I would avoid the 110. if you don't take the 605 to the 5 then take the 91 to the 710. Then it's a short drive to get on the 10 and then downtown. I usually park around 11th and Grand or maybe one of the lots off of Olive or Hill near Olympic. Those lots are a close walk and usually less than $10. And easy to get out of after the game.

I'm heading up from Irvine, 405/110. I did this many times last season, believe it or not, the worst part is the 405 out of Orange County, once I hit the LB area of the 405, it wasn't bad at all.

I've lived in Lake Forest for the better part of the last two decades. I've found that the distance is longer, and only a little time is saved, but the flow of traffic is best taking the 405 to the 110.
