Thread: Bench Richards.

Okay, I was at tonight's game and Richards was not bad at all. Stop with the stupid posting people. You're falling down to Duck fan level. If Richards was so bad then why does he have only a -1 in the plus minus. If you want to talk terrible, let's look at the biggest culprits: Fraser (-3), Nolan (-3), Clifford (-3). On the back end Doughty was on the ice for 3 of the goals (two on the PK) and Martinez was on for 3 also. It was a bad game all around. Kopitar took a couple of bad penalties, but was playing well, Gagne looked great, and well Penner looked lost and like utter crap. It's one thing to call for Penner's benching, a guy who shows up every once in a while and has been known to in the past. It's another thing to call out Richards. No one, except for unknowledgeable fans would call out Richards. Knowledgeable fans know that he's not a goal scorer, but an all around player and the things he does aren't going to be seen on the scoreboard. Maybe he's not playing his best, and maybe the whole situation is that fans expected the team to pick up right where they left off last year in June. Well reality check, Penner was great in June, but isn't now. The team was great in June, but isn't now. The questions that really needs to be asked is these, "Is this team as good as we think they are?" and "Would you go through another season of squeaking into the playoffs, struggling in scoring, to win the Cup again?" Get off Mike Richards. Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and every player has bad stretches. Calling for a top player's benching is just straight out stupid!

I never said this is an indication of the type of player he is. I've been a fan of his since he was on Philly. I know what he's capable of and as a former leadership player, I think he needs to start taking initiative on some of these games.

If your top 6 isn't producing for you, who will?

It's a shortend season and we just won the Cup. We're also playing without Mitchell and Green, and Kopitar has a knee brace. The Kings will be fine by the end of this "season."

Wish I could say I stopped reading there. Thanks to our trusty friends at Yahoo Sports, it can be known that Richards is tied with Brown for a team worst -6. Maybe you were just talking about him being -1 in tonight's game?

I say that if Richards spent as much time skating and staying fit during the lockout as he did fishing, hunting, hanging out on the lake, and posting about it on his Twitter he wouldn't look so slow and lost out there. In my opinion he's one of the guys who has achieved his goals (cup, big contract) and is content to just cruise from here on out. I would be thrilled if he proved otherwise... but until then I think Sutter's first message should be the removal of the 'A' on his jersey.
