I didn't like these cap-circumvention deals when the creative brain trust came up with them in the first place. Doesn't it seem hypocritical to punish teams recipient of these "league approved" deals in the first place after the teams traded market valued assets for the longevity of these "league approved" contracts ?

That's why I'm gonna wait until the wording in this new CBA is finalized.

Meh they were warned countless times. I see this as evening out the advantage. It only applies if they retire anyhow and all these deals were clearly signed with the full intent of playing them out

This "recapture" issue is potentially useful to a team that needs a cap hit to stay above the cap floor. I could see it being used as a way to help in that situation.

I wonder if this applies to players who are effectively retired while on Long Term Injured Reserve like Pronger , Marc Savard and DiPietro(eventually)
    ?

Apparently LTIR still works the same (allowed to go over cap) as before though we should know any specific changes today...

LTRI will be the loophole teams will use to prevent these cap hits.

Can a team trade their portion of a recapture with a player? Effectively adding more cap hit to a small salary?

nobody else thinks it's funny that they are now allowing teams to essentially negotiate with players for a week leading up to July 1st?

it's like, hey, we have this show on television, and these delays are ruining everything. no one wants to watch a bunch of hockey guys twiddling their thumbs and "winging it" on live tv for Pete's sake!

Well formally allowing it will stop a lot of the tampering crap that was obviously going on before but nobody wanted to pursue.
