Oh my, so young, condolences to his family, RIP booming voice.
Oh my, so young, condolences to his family, RIP booming voice.
Being at a live Kings game will never be the same. The only consolation is that he was able to witness the Kings win the Cup. So sad.
i have no idea what i'm doing
The Kings should use a recording of him saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Los Angeles Kings!" to introduce the Kings from now on, as a tribute. I honestly don't think I could get nearly as pumped up for a game without him...ugh I'm tearing up.
One of my favorite things about watching Kings games on the Center Ice package was listening to David Courtney's "Los Angeles goal...!" announcement after every Kings' goal. I'm just shocked and saddened to read about this. My sympathies and prayers to his family and friends.
Eternal rest grant unto Mr. Courtney, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
Damn, just awful. I don't believe I have ever known the Kings without David Courtney. He's such a part of the fan experience... his voice is almost as much a part of the team as Bob or Jim or Nick. Crap.
Not just an announcer, he was part of "our" family. Despite never personally meeting him, I knew him. He always sent birthday greetings, he always replied to messages and he was one of us. Only a couple of days ago, he commented on one of my Facebook posts, and now he is gone. The greatest tribute the Kings could give him, is a game of silence. I don't need anyone else telling me that they are "your Los Angeles Kings".
Horrible news. RIP
I just heard this in my head:
"Los Angeles Kings goal! Scoring his 30th goal of the season, number 11, Anze Kopitar! Assists to number 8 Drew Doughty and number 23 Dustin Brown. Time of the goal, 18 minutes and 39 seconds."
I'll never forget the infamous fog game at old Boston Gardens when he was stipp a PR assistant and Dennis Packer was still the PA announcer. DC was working for the NHL office in the playoffs and was seen running all over the ice during the delays for the fog.
The Kings have been very fortunate to have three outstanding PA guys over the years... John Ramsey, Dennis Packer, and David.
The idea of a silent game is a fitting one. Maybe no announcements at all. Just "announce" the goals and penalties in text on the scoreboard. The only thing you would have to do is the "one minute left" announcements.
Here's a clip of his introductions from game 3 of the finals this year: http://youtu.be/xdrN_gyhW6c
