So sad. He will be missed.
Got that right. I am a lifelong Dodger fan. Going to Angel stadium and hearing that voice though, made things all right. David just had a golden voice. In today's age of blow hard PA announcers, David stood above them all. Inflicting the right amount of emotion when appropriate, then bringing it back down when needed. As I have said, one of the nicest most genuine people anyone can meet. What a great human being.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, GOOD EVENING, and WELCOME, to Staples Center, the sports and entertainment capital of the world. I am David Courtney, welcome to todays match up between.... AND YOUR LOS ANGELES KINGS!"
I hope I did not butcher his opening lines. Call me crazy, but I just loved hearing his voice right before the warm ups, after warm ups, and right before the Kings hit the Ice. The Frozen Fury that kicked off last years magical run, I will always remember. David got to call it. For me, first one I got to be part of where he called it.
I'm stunned. I was just talking about him to a friend a couple weeks ago. He obviously had a great sense of humor and one of the best unexpected laughs I ever had at a Kings game was a couple seasons ago, during the first intermission. I was minding my own business, checking emails, and listening to David Courtney on the PA giving out-of-town scores. When it came to the Nashville vs. Carolina game, he announced it as the Battle of the Hillbillies. I giggled about that for the rest of the game. RIP David, you will definitely be missed.
I remember sometimes when David was sick and they had someone fill in for him and I would always laugh and be like "man this guy sucks.. where's David!!"
Nice that the last thing he announced at SC was "Ladies and Gentlemen, THE STANLEY CUP"
Sad.... very sad. prayers to DC family. You will be missed.
