neither player is anything to write home (or write period) about...yet
Drewiske has been good especially with those blocked shots. Nice positioning. I saw Muzzin get beat a couple of times yesterday but I am happy with his play. 44DD is solid and I'm happy to see him play. He's been a good soldier and done what has been expected of him when called to action. They are both playing with more confidence which is always a good thing.
And let's be frank here... we're talking about the 7th and 8th defensmen on the depth chart stepping in and playing 5th and 6th man minutes.
They shouldn't be expected to be anything to write home about. The most optimistic expectations anybody should have of these guys is that they don't cost the Kings any games.
Muzzin and Drewiske are doing exactly what you'd hope they would. Good for them and good for the Kings.
I think Drewiske looks very solid playing defense. His positioning is solid and he is great a blocking shots and tying up opponenets.
The one area that I think needs improvement is his ability to recover pucks cleanly and make quicker decisions to pass the puck. He is great at preventing or stopping an opponent's scoring chance, but I find the puck often gets stuck in his skates and he hesitates a bit. He is just not as fluid in his footwork with the puck to his stick as some of his teammates. This often allows the opposing team to apply pressure on him a little longer and can possibly lead to additional opportunities for them on the forecheck.
Luckily, the more time he gets to play, this should clean up.
Actually been impressed with Muzzin at least on the offensive side of things. I saw him twice, at least, last night driving the center lane on an offensive rush. He seems to have a green light to jump into the offense and he's taking it. Agreed that for these first few games they've done exactly what is to be expected.
It definitely helps them that the Kings have such a supported defensive system. It helps alot in cases like this to have such defensively responsible forwards.
