Fox was saying that it's not necessarily the whistle though, the refs can review the play if it's something like he didn't MEAN to blow it. I forget the exact wording, perhaps someone who know's their way around the rule book can find the exact wording.

Either way it was clearly a goal and the whistle blew a split second before the puck crossed the line.

Between that and a couple of posts, this game should have been over long before 4.7 seconds left in the 3rd.

You got it backwards. The ref can call no goal based on when he intended to blow the whistle. Also, the whistle clearly blew before the puck crossed the line. The ref cannot "un-blow" a whistle.

Possibly the weirdest game I've seen in a long time, maybe ever.

Don't they warn the crowd about that bench minor rule pre-game? I heard the PA guy warn the crowd after the second stoppage, when Fox said there was something thrown on the ice again. It wasn't shown, but he said it looked like a water bottle. If not called during the first stoppage, it should have been called as soon as that bottle hit the ice. What a mess of a game, all around.

honestly, they were penalty happy last night. the most egregious penalty was the delay of game from the faceoff.

i also thought they 'copped-out' when they called the player in the crease and removed the edmonton goal. not that i wanted that goal, but the correct call should have been goaltender interference. however since the whistle blew, and they couldn't go to instant replay, but knew they blew the goaltender interference call, and knew they couldn't count the goal, they went to the only other rule remotely callable in the books, which is player in the crease. actually they didn't cop-out, they did the right thing on that one, other than sucking and not calling the interference to begin with

After watching the game on DVR, you can hear the arena announcer tell the crowd that a penalty will be called if they continue to throw things on to the ice.

The Edmonton goal that was disallowed was total b.s. It was NOT goaltender interference. The guy was clearly pushed in and his leg was caught in Quick's pad.

I couldn't care less about the cross heck that occurred prior to that. It's hockey and crosschecks get noncalls all the time. It's frankly as pathetic to complain about that as it was for Parise to complain about the "hit from behind" from Stoll when Scuderi got his head chopped off right after.

The Kings had opportunity after opportunity to put the Oilers away and failed.

With all that said ... hands down the most horribly reffed game if ever seen. I honesty would have felt guilty had the Oilers not scored to tie it up because that disallowed goal was so brutal.

I thought Gagne interfered with the goalie, just because you get touched by a d-man near a goalie it doesn't give you license to engage the goalie. The crease violation was clearly the ref's trying to make their own justice on the mess.

I do agree though that the Kings had no business winning that game based on blown opportunities, but then again Edmonton had many opportunities as well. Quick is the only one I felt bad for.
