Sorry for the long post, but, I have a question for all you LGK'ers: What would you consider a "bandwagon fan"?
I ask because I have a Ducks fan on Twitter calling me one. He was one of several who were butt-hurt when I said on Twitter that "Kings fans were more knowledgeable about hockey than some Ducks or Sharks fans". Didn't say ALL, just some. As for myself, I've been a loyal Kings fan for many years. They caught my eye during the era of Young Luc, and the Triple Crown line. Growing up in a small NW Washington town, I didn't know much about hockey, other than watching Canucks games in the early 80's. I enjoyed the Canucks, but, I would also get to see L.A. occasionally play (against VAN). Also, I'd get an occasional highlight or two from Canadian news about the Kings.
As I got older, my love for the Kings grew, and I found myself being drawn to their players and the underdog role they had in the NHL. Being in the Northwest, and before Satellite TV took off, I still didn't get many Kings games. I was stuck with ESPN's package of games, which usually featured no more than around 7 or 8 teams. So, unless L.A. was the opponent of one of those teams, ESPN wasn't interested. That said, I enjoyed watching certain teams like Philly or Pittsburgh. Sometimes, Anaheim was featured, and I enjoyed them too. None of those teams could take the place of the Kings, however.
Now, at 42 years old, I'm still a huge Kings fan. I love telling people that now that they've won the Cup, I can die happy. A 2nd Cup has been even sweeter, considering the way the team won it. Words cannot describe how beautiful it is! However, I still follow, but not devote my allegiance, to some other teams, including Buffalo, Philly & Arizona (my new home). I mentioned this to the Ducks fan and he said that me following other teams proved his point. I'm a bandwagon fan.
Maybe I'm wrong, but, isn't a "bandwagon fan" someone who jumps on board a team when they're having success? I didn't know you had to only focus on one team, and ignore the rest. To me, it's like loving cheesecake, but, ignoring other desserts. Am I wrong? What say you LGK'ers? Thanks for chiming in.
