Default Ducks fan calls us out as "bandwagoners"

Sorry for the long post, but, I have a question for all you LGK'ers: What would you consider a "bandwagon fan"?

I ask because I have a Ducks fan on Twitter calling me one. He was one of several who were butt-hurt when I said on Twitter that "Kings fans were more knowledgeable about hockey than some Ducks or Sharks fans". Didn't say ALL, just some. As for myself, I've been a loyal Kings fan for many years. They caught my eye during the era of Young Luc, and the Triple Crown line. Growing up in a small NW Washington town, I didn't know much about hockey, other than watching Canucks games in the early 80's. I enjoyed the Canucks, but, I would also get to see L.A. occasionally play (against VAN). Also, I'd get an occasional highlight or two from Canadian news about the Kings.

As I got older, my love for the Kings grew, and I found myself being drawn to their players and the underdog role they had in the NHL. Being in the Northwest, and before Satellite TV took off, I still didn't get many Kings games. I was stuck with ESPN's package of games, which usually featured no more than around 7 or 8 teams. So, unless L.A. was the opponent of one of those teams, ESPN wasn't interested. That said, I enjoyed watching certain teams like Philly or Pittsburgh. Sometimes, Anaheim was featured, and I enjoyed them too. None of those teams could take the place of the Kings, however.

Now, at 42 years old, I'm still a huge Kings fan. I love telling people that now that they've won the Cup, I can die happy. A 2nd Cup has been even sweeter, considering the way the team won it. Words cannot describe how beautiful it is! However, I still follow, but not devote my allegiance, to some other teams, including Buffalo, Philly & Arizona (my new home). I mentioned this to the Ducks fan and he said that me following other teams proved his point. I'm a bandwagon fan.

Maybe I'm wrong, but, isn't a "bandwagon fan" someone who jumps on board a team when they're having success? I didn't know you had to only focus on one team, and ignore the rest. To me, it's like loving cheesecake, but, ignoring other desserts. Am I wrong? What say you LGK'ers? Thanks for chiming in.

-(habs fan): Wow. I just heard everyone in Chicago kill themselves at the same time.

I think all hockey fans follow a few teams even though they are ultimately a fan of just one team. Example, Ill follow the Panthers this season to see how WM is doing.

"Bandwagon fan"? Not you. You've put in your dues. The problem with Twitter is that it lets the less-conscious speak with their thumbs.

Just remind them of their glorious just over 15,000 fans that showed up for their Parking Lot Cup Parade. They were ranked 21 for home attendance this year, and remember what Hiller said about California Hockey teams other than the Kings.

Here's the thing, bandwagon fans happen to every team of every sport that wins Championships. Its unavoidable. But if you think about it, its a sign that you've made it. Your team won.

Anaheim won 1 cup 5 years ago and haven't done anything since then.

You don't need to explain or defend yourself as a fan to anyone. You know how strong your allegiances are to your teams, and nothing anyone else says will change that.

Couldn't agree more. The first team I followed was the Islanders in 1976, after they were the first team in 30 years to come back from 0-3 in a playoff series. Imagine what I've gone through since then . . . right up to now, knowing that they were going to draft 1 or 2 in 2015 except for that hideous Moulson-Vanek rape.

    I am a poseur fan, not a bandwaggoner. There's a difference!

Default Ducks fan calls us out as "bandwagoners"

Just tell them, 2 Cups baby!

I've been a Kings fan since 93 (12 yrs old) and a STH since 02-03. I live in LA, obviously a Kings fan. I follow all the teams I guess you could say, watch the NHL Network almost every day, especially right now seeing what teams are signing what free agents, etc. Just because I follow the entire NHL, I wouldn't think that makes me a band wagon Wings fan or Duck fan. That's stupid. I don't root for them but I follow them, does that make sense? There are teams that I hope do well, just because they're so terrible, like the Panthers, Islanders, Sabres, etc. Does that make me a bandwagoner? Who knows. Who cares really.

Who cares what little turd kids say on Twitter. Do what you want. Some people on LGK have expressed their displeasure towards Kings bandwagoners. I could care less what other people do, as long as it doesn't affect me. Some people on the internet are just cry babies.

Hey, I'm 42 as well. So you and I have suffered for many years as Kings fans. Just tell those bitches that their pathetic fanbase wouldn't even exist if not for the weak bandwagon weasel rejects from OUR fanbase who jumped ship because they loved Disneyland as kids. Ducks fans, born from our rejects. Their hockey DNA was bred from our weak and feeble. Congratulate them for that.
