Default Dwight King signs 3 Yr/5.85M extension. AAV 1.95M

Surprised this board has been so silent on the Dwight King front...
Does he get a contract before his hearing comes up?

    Yea I'd imagine so.

If anyone really appreciates King's game, it's Lombardi and Sutter. They'll give him a well deserved raise.

Imho, he doesn't do anything extra special that your typical 2nd/3rd line winger couldn't do. I just feel like he could really be such a strong presence out there with his size but my opinion doesn't mean squat.

The guy had 15 goals and 15 assists this year. That's more points than Toffoli. He's pretty darned tough, and with the style the Kings play over the course of 82 games, he's a good fit. He made $750,000 this year so the QualOffer was for $787,500. I'm guessing no other team made him an offer (but then teams don't like to mess with other team's RFAs). If the Kings didn't offer him more, sorry but he's worth more. Clifford makes $1,075,000... Schultz makes $850,000. I don't know... maybe $950,000-1mil? 2 seasons?

Exactly. I think we had 4 arbitration people last summer. Certainly Martinez and Muzzin. I think Nolan too. And Lewis(???); it was another bottom 6 forward. DL will get a deal done.

I'm sure he'll get a fair deal more than that. Probably in the range of 1.1-2.0 per season.

Whenever looking at what these players could get, it's important to look at RFA comparables, as that's what the arbiter examines (and what each side will present to make their case), if it even gets that far. The two sides can still negotiate and come to an agreement. Here are some comparables:

    Marcus Foligno : Age - 22, G - 7, A - 12, Pts - 19, PIM - 82, Cap Hit - $1.875
    Zack Kassian: Age - 23, G - 14, A - 15, Pts - 29, PIM - 124, Cap Hit - $1.75
    Mikael Backlund: Age - 25, G - 18, A - 21, Pts - 39, PIM - 32, Cap Hit - $1.5
    Marcus Kruger: Age - 24, G - 8, A - 20, Pts - 29, PIM - 36, Cap Hit - $1.325
    Cam Atkinson: Age - 25, G - 21, A - 19, Pts - 40, PIM - 18, Cap Hit - $1.15
    Colin Wilson: Age - 24, G - 11, A - 22, Pts - 33, PIM - 21, Cap Hit - $2.00
    Dwight King: Age - 25, G - 15, A - 15, Pts - 30, PIM - 18

I picked players within 3 years, playing a similar role on the team with similar production (within 10 points), and who weren't on an entry level contract, and still have RFA years ahead of them. You can see what the likely number/comparables will be.

Exactly. While filing for arbitration means they haven't come to an agreement, it doesn't state how far apart they are, either. This gives the two sides a hard deadline to reach an agreement, else they have a third party decide. Don't forget the Kings had multiple players file for arbitration last year, and they all reached an agreement.

The real concerns are where players expects a lot more than what's reasonable... and I put this on the players, because if a GM really doesn't think a player is worth keeping, he can just not qualify him. It may not be fair, but I can't think of any cases off the top of my head where a player was awarded substantially more than what the team was offering. See: Cammalleri getting nearly half what he was demanding when he went t arbitration.

I'm guessing it's not binding arbitration? At anywhere close to 2 mil I'd probably sign and trade. They only have $2.2 mil of cap space.
    1.1mil max offer by Kings.
