Dear Hockey Gods,
As Kings’ fans we thank you for lifting your bad juju and smiling upon the team that we love so much and helping to guide them to the teams first ever Stanley Cup. The Kings have had their fun in the sun so to speak and now they are looking for their first win of the season. Apparently either the team or the fans have displeased you in some way, shape, or form and not only have they not won, but two key players on the defense have been smote and who knows what else may befall us. I am offering my bottle of Patron Silver as a sacrifice in hopes that the libations will hope to soothe any anger that may be felt towards the team. If further sacrifice is needed please let me know and I will comply with said demands. Best Regards, Rawley

1/24/2013: Los Angeles Kings @ Edmonton Oilers
On 1/2/1992 the Kings score four goals in under eight minutes in the second period on their way to a 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers at the Great Western Forum.

The LA King’s Steve Shutt scored his tenth and final hat trick of his career, (only one as a King) in a 7-2 victory over the Oilers at the Forum on 12/13/84.

On 12/16/03; the King’s Noah Clarke becomes the first native Southern Californian to play for the Kings. Clarke recorded an assist for his first NHL point in his first NHL game; in a 4-2 victory over the Oilers.

If you grew up going to Kings games during the 1980s and 1990s, you knew one thing was for certain; the Oilers and the Kings were going to seem like they played each other 20 times a season and you could not wait to root against and despise the Oilers. For whatever reason, and I am sure that many of you out there remember this as well; that in the age of tie games it seemed like these two teams played in more tie games than any other clubs combined. Here are some Oilers tidbits for you to chew on.
On October 12, 2006; Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers set an NHL record when he recorded the fastest hat trick in NHL History. He scored the three goals in the first 2:01 of the game while leading the team to a 6-4 win over San Jose.

During the 1977/78 season when the Oilers were still part of the WHA; they played against touring teams from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. What made it really interesting is that the games played, counted in the regular standings.
In 1991 the Central Red Army team played in the Super Series against seven teams from the NHL. The Central Red Army team dominated the NHL, going 6-0-1 against them. The only team to hold their own against the CSKA was the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 victory.

In 2003 the Oilers and the Canadiens played outdoors in front of 57,167 fans at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium. The Canadiens would win the game but that would not be the huge story, it would be the fact that the game was played in -22 F weather, with wind chill.

Last game I wrote some facts on the inaugural team from 1967/68; here are some facts from the 1968/69 team.
The second season would prove to be a struggle as they would post a record of 24-42-10.Their record would be good enough though, as they were in the all expansion Western Division and the team would secure the final playoff spot while placing fourth. California would witness a battle of north versus south when the Kings faced the Oakland Seals in a contest that went seven games and seeing the Kings advance to the next round. The Western Finals were not kind to the Kings as they would be swept in four games by the St. Louis Blues.

Attendance in those early years was always a topic of discussion among ownership and for good reason, the average attendance for the Kings in that second season was 8,802.

Kings coach Leonard “Red” Kelly earned his fair share of hardware during his playing career. He was a four time Lady Byng Memorial Trophy winner, one James Norris Trophy, and he happened to have eight Stanley Cup Championships as well. In fact he holds the record for most Cups won by a player that never played for the Canadiens.

For the second season in a row; Eddie Joyal would lead the team in scoring with a total of 52 points, (33G, 19A).
More, Did you know?
Did you know that Simon Gagne is tied with Mats Sundin, Alexander Ovechkin, and David Legwand for having scored the fastest goal in OT? The record is at six seconds.

Did you know that Alec Martinez was once a member of the San Jose Junior Sharks?
(Image of Martinez)
Did you know that Rob Scuderi ended a 120-game scoreless streak in Stockholm, Sweden versus the Ottawa Senators, on 10/4/2008?

Since no one guessed the trivia question in the first game I did not include it in the second game. I will make it easier for this go round; but remember if you answer it you need to post a new trivia question.
Who did the Kings get from the Rangers when they traded Bernie Nicholls?
