Facts on the Fly: 2/5/2013 Los Angeles Kings @ Columbus Blue Jackets
So I was at the game at the Ponda on Saturday, it was my first Kings @ Water Fowl game in Anaheim and even though the Kings did not win; it was nice seeing that the crowd was definitely pro-King. Talked to several Anaheim fans and they were not happy to see their home invaded and essentially taken over by Kings fans. Personally had no problems with their fans and look forward to joining fellow Kings fans in another full scale invasion in the future. Hope to hear lots of booing for Carter after he puts the puck in the net at least two times against his former team.

2/5/2013: Los Angeles Kings @ Columbus Blue Jackets
On 11/13/2005; there were two Kings who would record hat tricks in a Kings 8-2 victoroy at Columbus. Alexander Frolov scored his first three-goal game and added an assist while Craig Conroy followed suit, scoring three goals and adding two assists in the blowout.

Fans in attendance for a game played on11/16/1976 between the Kings and the Cleveland Barons saw Rogie Vachon and the Kings skate to a 0-0 tie, the sixth 0-0 tie in club history. Marcel Dionne would tie a club record by taking 11 shots in the game.

On 1/28/2010; Kopitar scored his 100th NHL goal, which was the game winner, as well as his 101st, leading the Kings to a 4-1 victory over the Blue Jackets. It was also Kopitar's 289th game in the NHL.

Writing about the Blue Jackets is not easy. I have stated in other threads that there are certain teams that just do not have the history and Columbus is one of them. Essentially there was once a team in Ohio called the Cleveland Barons and Columbus once had Nash; they also had Carter for a short time and now have Jack Johnson. That is about it, but I will try anyway.
Goaltenter Ron Tugnutt, who was signed in the summer of 2000, supplied solid goaltending with 22 wins, which tied the 74-year-old NHL record for wins by an expansion-team goalie.

The Blue Jackets broke a modern day record on 4/3/2007 that they wish they could take back. They lost 3-0 to the Detroit Red Wings, this brought their number of times being shut out during the season to a total of 16.
In the 2002/2003 season; Marc Denis was named starting goalie. Denis would play a franchise-record 77 games that season and set a NHL record with 4,511 minutes played in 2002/03. He is tied for second all-time for games played in a season by a goaltender, just two shy of the League record held by St. Louis Blues' Grant Fuhr.

Rick Nash's second year in the NHL, saw an improvement in his rookie goal total from 17 to 41, he tied Jarome Iginla and Ilya Kovalchuk for the most goals in the league. At the age of 19, Nash was the youngest player in history to lead the league in goals.

The 1973/74 LA Kings were much better than the previous few years; they even made it to the playoffs that season.

The Kings started the season very slowly, they went 5-14-3 by the end of November and found themselves in last place. The turnaround came when the Kings pulled a huge trade that sent defenseman Gilles Marotte to the Rangers for defenseman Sheldon Kannegiesser, forwards Mike Murphy, and Tom Williams; and center Gene Carr. The last three weeks of the season the Kings went 9-0-2 and finished in third place.

The final game of the season saw the Kings clinching 3rd, but they wanted a win to finish at .500 for the season and also needed to outscore the Canucks by 8 goals to finish even in goal differential on the season. The Kings did win the game 11-1 to finish .500; and with a plus goal differential for the first time in their history.

More importantly, this was the season that saw the start of a Kings legend, that’s right party people, it was the year that had the debut of Bob Miller.

The Kings played the Blackhawks in the playoffs that season, losing in 5 games. Two of the key moments of the series was the fact that Game 3 in LA was the first one in LA in five years and their Game 5 win was the team’s first playoff win since Game 7 of the quarterfinals against the Seals in 1969.
Random facts for your viewing pleasure:
On 3/25/03; the Kings played the Columbus Blue Jackets to a tie game but did not receive a point for the tie; the reason being that the Kings pulled their goalie in OT and lost the game. The game was officially recognized as a regulation loss.
The number one has been worn by 13 players during the history of the Kings and yes, they have all been goalies.
