Facts on the Fly: 2/7/2013 Los Angeles Kings @ Nashville Predators
Richards off the snide with a Gordie Howe hat trick; Carter with a goal against his former team; Williams with three assists; and Scuderi showed that he is made from some material other than flesh; this is the team that we were hoping to watch from the opening game. While it was wonderful to watch them win the other night, it is time to move on to the next game which when they are done, they will stay in Nashville for awhile before moving on to the next game. Hopefully a win against the Predators and then some time together as a team can help them get on a much needed streak, preferably a winning one.

2/7/2013: Los Angeles Kings @ Nashville Predators
On 1/13/2004; the Kings and Predators play to a 0-0 tie in Tennessee, the 12th scoreless game in Kings' history. Roman Cechmanek finished with 29 saves to give him his 25th shutout in only 185 games.

Fans in attendance for a game on1/15/2002 saw Felix Potvin record his 21st career shutout in a 2-0 win over the visiting Nashville Predators. Steve Heinze scored the game winner early in the third period, Craig Johnson would add an empty netter in the win.

On 12/11/2003; the Kings extended their unbeaten streak in Nashville to 10 games with a 4-1 victory. Ziggy Palffy played his 300th game as a King and scored two goals and an assist. The Kings streak was eight wins and two ties; it was the longest unbeaten streak in an opponent's building in team history.

Here we go again against the Predators! The first time was a heartbreaker in LA that went into a shootout. After the game against the Blue Jackets it looks like the team may be back; and I am back as well to write about the Predators. This time I will write about the actual team rather than try and find info on some other team that at one time played in the Nashville or even Tennessee area.
When the Saber-toothed Tiger logo was unveiled, the franchise held a vote among fans to choose a name; the three candidates were whittled down from a field of 75: Ice Tigers, Fury and Attack. Owner Craig Leipold would add his own submission to the vote, the Predators. On November 13, Leipold told a press conference that his submission had won out and that the new franchise would be known as the Nashville Predators.

In the 2001/02 season the Predators recorded their 100th victory as a franchise on December 6, 2001. Nashville became the second-fastest expansion team of the 1990s to reach the 100-win plateau.
The Predators set the franchise mark for wins in a season with a 2–0 shutout of the Phoenix Coyotes on March 16, 2006; that game held another milestone for goaltender Chris Mason as he would became the ninth goaltender to score a goal.

On April 3, 2008, with the Predators clinging to a 3-2 lead with 4:30 in their final home game of the regular season, the sellout crowd gave the team a standing ovation through the whole final TV timeout. The Predators went on to win the game against the Blues, the "standing O" during the final TV timeout has since become a fan tradition.

Due to realignment the Kings were placed in the same division with the Montreal Canadiens and hockey experts joked that Montreal would clinch 1st place by Christmas. The Kings however would start fast, losing only two times in their first 26 games. The Canadiens would catch them and take over first place, but did not do so until there were only three games remaining in the season.
The Kings finished with a record of 42-17-21 for a total of 105 points; this is still the highest point total for a season in Kings history. That record also helped King’s coach Bob Pulford win the Jack Adam’s Award for Coach of the Year.

The Kings finished the season with the fourth best record in the league, but because they finished second they had to play a Best of Three series with the Maple Leafs. The Kings lost in three, taking the first game at home. Two of the games went to OT and all three games were one goal differences.

If anyone wants to complain about a schedule it should have been the Kings for their playoff series with Toronto, (granted Toronto had to do it too). They played the first game of the series in LA on 4/8/1975; the second game in Toronto on 4/10/1975; and the final game of the three game series on 4/11/1975 in LA.

Did you know that former King Larry Murphy is the only player to have won four Stanley Cups in the 1990’s? Not only that but he did it on two different teams that won back-to-back titles; the Penguins 1991 and 1992; Red Wings 1997 and 1998.
