US High school sensation Bobby Carpenter was selected one spot after Smith and had a much better career, which included a short stint with the Kings.

Continuing on the number angle, Bernie Nicholls is known to most Kings fans as #9. However, he wore two other numbers before #9. Bonus points if you can produce a picture of either.
Up until quite recently I had always thought that it was the 79 and 81 picks because the Kings had traded their #1 for Ron Grahame (essentially to replace Vachon) but yet the Kings still had a #1 pick and took Jay Wells. It actually looks like Boston and the Kings flipped picks but I can find no mention of this while searching.

On the Doug Smith/Bobby Carpenter comparison: I always though the Kings blew this one because they didn't take Ron Francis...not Carpenter.

What was the # that Tony Granato wore when he first arrived with the Kings, in a trade for Bernie Nicholls?
    I'm guessing #14.

Name the first defenseman to wear #77 after Paul Starbucks Coffey

Yup! Thank you for answering, I've been trying to that out for a while. Only remember one thing from Cowoe, was a sweet wrist shot from the point. Could have googled it but I torture myself like that.

And everyone is so cute with the "I googled the answer but I won't say and I will answer the question with the correct answer phrased in a question so I look innocent. I need to get some milk for my cereal" faces!

Were the Kings a soccer team at one point? Who is the one named player you reference?

The "Gordie" in the list must be for Gordie Walker who played with the Kings for one game in the 89/90 season, and yes he was #14. And yes I had to research this one!!!

Almost forgot my own rules of engagement and left out a trivia question:

When the Kings finally got back to the playoffs in 2010 they had two players that lead the team in scoring in the six games of the playoffs they played against the Canucks, who were they?
