Facts on the Fly: 2/25/2013 Anaheim Ducks @ Los Angeles Kings
(Brought to you by Rawley19)
Season series: This is the second of four meetings. The Ducks earned a 7-4 win against the Kings on Feb. 2.
Big story: Anaheim faces its fiercest rival Monday night, just 24 hours after it rallied again to notch a 4-3 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche at the Honda Center. The Ducks have now won six in a row and have come from behind in each victory.
Team Scope:
Ducks: Trailing 3-2 midway through the third period, captain Ryan Getzlaf scored via the power play at the 8:49 mark with his sixth goal of the season. Then, in overtime, the Ducks were awarded another man advantage, and it didn’t take long for them to capitalize. Corey Perry’s fifth goal of the season at 4:14 assured Anaheim of its sixth straight victory. The Ducks sit atop the Pacific Division with 27 points.
“I’m getting older, the heart can’t take this stuff,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “But in the end, a win is a win. In a perfect world, you’d like to jump out to a 2-0, 3-0 lead and snuff them right out and not give them anything.”
Kings: It’s looking as if things are starting to come together for the defending Stanley Cup champions, as the Kings enter Monday’s action riding a three-game winning streak. Los Angeles last played on Saturday afternoon, when it opened a three-game homestand with a 4-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche at the Staples Center.
The Kings’ top line of Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams combined for two goals and two assists, while Jonathan Quick made 25 saves.
"We know what we're getting [with our line]," Kopitar said. "You know what you're getting from Brownie. You know what you're getting from Willie. We've gotten used to it. We've played a good chunk, or pretty much the whole last year together. The chemistry's there. It's just being [able to be] sharp at all times.
"I thought we had pretty good offensive zone time and we were creating chances. We hit a couple of posts, too. Now we just got to stay consistent and play like that."
Injury report: The Kings are still without defensemen Matt Greene (back), Willie Mitchell (knee) and Alec Martinez (upper body).
Who's hot: Perry scored twice and added an assist Sunday night, extending his point streak to four consecutive games. He has four goals and three assists over that span. … Kings center Jeff Carter has scored in three straight games.

Darryl Sutter (game recap): "The last time we played Colorado [on Jan. 22] we lost 3-1 and our first two lines, as you call them, were significantly outplayed by the [Paul] Stastny line and the [Matt Duchene]. Tonight we were able to counter that with those performances by those top two lines."
Jeff Carter on where his line’s increased production is coming from: “I don’t know. We’re playing well as a line and [have been] winning a lot of puck battles lately. Richie’s doing a great job of finding me. Lewie’s doing a great job of getting on pucks in the forecheck and turning them over for us. I’m just kind of hanging out in the slot, and it’s been working.”
Jonathan Quick on whether he’s shaken off “rust” from earlier in the season: “I don’t know if I would say ‘rust’…You don’t make a couple saves that you think you should, and then you get a couple bad bounces, and the next thing you know, everyone thinks you’re playing terrible. The goalie coach and I have been doing a lot of work and just kind of sticking with it. We haven’t changed anything. We’re just doing the same thing. We’ve been playing great. I’ve been getting a lot of help. It’s definitely helped. It’s good to get rewarded with a couple wins.”
Jarret Stoll on the trend of keeping the opponents’ scores low: “Our goaltending has been good. We’ve given up maybe too many pretty good scoring chances, grade-A chances there. Quickie had to make some big saves again today. You need that. You need your goaltending. We’ve just got to clean up some defensive zone stuff. We’ve done a good job as five-man groups all over the ice, making sure we’re supporting our defensemen and defensemen making sure they’re supporting us.”
Dustin Penner on his assist on Anze Kopitar’s goal: “I was slashing through the middle and Kinger had the puck. We kind of made eye contact where I wanted him to chip it. So when he chipped it, it was a perfect chip where I could skate into it with speed, and it was a bit of a mismatch with the Colorado player, so I just held on to the puck, saw Kopi come off the bench, waited until he was in position, and then he made a great shot – post and in.”
Darryl Sutter on the heritage jerseys: “Oh, I love ‘em. I think that’s fun…the best part, hey, it was fun walking into the locker room before the game, seeing ‘em hanging there. Even practicing with ‘em the last week. They’re cool. I love those jerseys.”
Davis Payne on how much the team views the Anaheim game on Monday as redemption: “It’s a big game for us. Division game. We’ve made some progress here, and we want to make sure we keep taking steps forward. We had Colorado after playing a poor game, and now we’ve got Anaheim after playing them poorly the first time. We’ve got to make sure we’ve got our A-game ready.”
