First of all, the pre-game ceremony was awesome. I loved the fact that the players, after receiving their rings, skated to their "spot" and just stared at their rings. I mean, it was awesome, and I'm sure they were awestruck. Even saw a couple of guys sharing in the moment together...before the Ice Crew took them back for later.

The game rust was sure there...and that 2 man PP for the 'Hawks didn't help (the players were gassed...)

Enough about the game...now my off the ice negatives: What was up with the scoreboard? It kept showing both teams with the exact same SOGs...and when it was put up "Shots on the PP"....Hossa was listed for Kings and the 'Hawks. Got corrected late in second period (I think...I stoppped looking).

Secondly, must have been new sound people...because they were off...but again...first game...which can - I guess - be blamed for Dave Joseph. Sure, David Courtney was the BEST (that moment of silence...with 18,000 dead quiet...was very emotional...except for there's always one putz who feels the need to whistle)...but Joseph must have felt the nerves. One thing he (and his "staff") needs to fix is the looooong delay before calling out goals.

Now, I know on Scuds goal...it might have been tipped by Cliffy (it wasn't) so they had to check to make sure...but HELL...go with Scuds right away...correct later.

Worst was when the Kings scored to make it 4-2...the Hossa fired one past Quickie seconds later. A good 70 seconds went by BEFORE the Kings goal was announced.

Why am I b!tching so much? I don't know...but fans booing the PP was dumb. It's really our first ''formally known as our 1st pre-season game''...playin' without Kopi...and you boo.

I'll be there again on the 28th...just to be ready for another "review"...but it was good to see the guys again...listen to Pia...and see Bob Miller.

i forgot to mention, the immediate honoring of David Courtney with a moment of silence at the very beginning of the ceremony was incredible. you could hear a pin drop at center ice, i've never experienced anything like that before at staples. it was quite moving, and i held back the tears, and the lump in my throat was huge.

Meanwhile, Jack Johnson is already a -1...

Maybe that's exactly what the Kings needed, a little dose of humility / reality after their extended summer with the Cup.

It was a jinx to raised the banner to a place other than its permanent location.

Seriously they couldn't have rigged It to go up next to the other banners as it sits now ?

I thought he was good, it'll take time to get used to like you said. As Kings fans, we were spoiled by David Courtney for all these years, so its tough having to adjust to the "new guy".

One point about the PA. When a close play occurs on a goal it always takes the off-ice officials a long time to make the call. They have to wait until commercial breaks to replay the video until they get it right. The NHL wants them to get the scoring right the first time. The PA announcer and the scorer's table has nothing to do with it other then to announce to the crowd - the decision is fully made upstairs. All they do at ice level is receive the scoring info from the NHL official scorer.

Dave Joseph will do great - people just have to get used to him. He is well qualified and will do great.

Default Slava Voynov was Better Positioned tonight than the Banner

Yeah, Voynov was poorly positioned on the goal that Taves scored at the beginning of the 2nd period. But how 'bout that banner? Gently nestled between 50 speakers where it's in full view of anyone in the arena. (PS this post is not at all out of frustration from tonight's utter beat-down, or the fact that Quick should of been pulled at the third goal. For God's sake, Bernier won't see ANY minutes this "season" if tonights performance doesn't warrant a yanking. By the way Fiscal Clifford fell down about 3 times and bobbled the puck like he usually does but accidentally made two assists and was the third star, even though Scuderi scores a goal a season at best. Yeah. And how about that banner position?)

    /rant

edit: been a kings phan-boi for 23+ years and am grateful for even a mis-positioned banner
