LA Kings Insider with Jon Rosen

For more quotes, please go to Jon Rosen's blog at LA Kings Insider.

Darryl Sutter on asking for more from depth players, and getting a goal from Alec Martinez: “Marty played good. It’s a faceoff goal, right? Richards wins that draw, and it goes Regehr-Martinez. Forwards win the race to the net and the goalie doesn’t see it. Brown’s goal was Jarret Stoll wins a faceoff, and Justin Williams makes a good play.”

Justin Williams on playing 800 games and reaching multiple milestones this season: "It seems like I’m fooling a lot of people. Obviously some things I’m going to look back and be proud of, but I said for the couple other milestones, I plan on contributing to those totals as the years go by."

Darryl Sutter on scoring goals off rushes against a strong defensive team: "It’s just what I said. Jeff scored a big goal. Kopi forces a guy on his backhand, turns the puck over, and Justin Williams scores a power play goal in the first minute of the second period."

Dustin Brown on the team’s success against the Eastern Conference: “It correlates pretty well to the overall league [record]. I’m not sure what the league standings are, but I know early on it was very one-sided. Boston’s probably the one team in the east that seems like a west team to me. It’s much more physical, more grinding. A lot of the east teams, they’re just maybe faster skating skill teams with open ice. The west, all the teams are pretty much the same, except for maybe Chicago is the only one that plays like a different style. I don’t think there are many teams that play their style, period."

Justin Williams on the 4-2 win: “I thought we were very assertive tonight. I thought we obviously got out to a lead, scored a big power play goal. There were a lot of aspects to the game that were important, and we did a lot of them well tonight, and when their push came at us, we had a response. That’s a good team over there that we beat, and we’re happy about it.”

Matt Greene on the team’s even demeanor regardless of the circumstances: "Guys have been around for a while now. We’ve got a good group here. You’ve got a lot of interchangeable parts and you have to have confidence in your group and confidence in yourself. We’re a good team, we know we are. We can get through slumps together and guys can lean on each other to get through individual and team slumps. We try not to get too high and not to get too low."

Darryl Sutter on whether he anticipates getting Greene into the lineup soon: “No. Based on performance. I’m not into ‘what you did.’ I’m into ‘what you’re doing.’ [Reporter: How much is it based on performance, and how much of it is just putting out the six players that give you the best chance to win on that particular night?] We went on a trip and didn’t have much to show for it when we came home, and Greene played every game. So at the end of the day, when you make changes, you make changes generally in your sixth defenseman and your fourth line. So last night the game before, he was the sixth defenseman, and he went out. Last night, Jordan Nolan went out. That’s a fact. That’s what good coaches do, and that’s what good teams do, and that’s too bad. I’m not into feeling sorry for guys ‘cause they’ve been around a long time. I’m in to how they play. Very simple. Either they accept it, or they don’t. [Reporter: Does it seem like he’s accepting it?] He better. He better have a good attitude, very simple. The only thing I don’t accept is anybody with a bad attitude in terms of work ethic, attitude, or how they’re received by their teammates. It’s why we’re a good team. It’s a change that we’ve had to make, obviously, in the last three years here.”

Darryl Sutter on Matt Frattin’s physical play, forechecking and near-goals off deflections: "He’s got a good work ethic. He’s finishing checks. He’s trying to give us some energy, so if you’re not scoring, you better do those things, or else you’re out of the lineup."

Winning streak in the making. Great game for the TEAM USA goaltender. I think Quick will come out flying. And I really hope the Kings solve Howard in the first period. If not that's going to be a 44-17 shots game in favour of the Kings with a score of 2-1. BUT my prediction is 4-0 Kings. Strong statement from Quick with a shutout and Howard allows 4 goals on 35 shots. Toffoli gets us going in the first. Koptiar scores 2 and Richards 1.

It's pretty cool when the head coach confirms something you posted in another thread, ain't it?

"Darryl Sutter on whether he anticipates getting Greene into the lineup soon: “No. Based on performance. After watching 24/7 I just reaffirmed my disdain for the Wings. I love that they lost almost every game while they were profiled to boot. Anyway, this would be a big W not for the two points, not for morale, but to watch the legions of RW fans walk out of the stapler in disappointment.

    GO KINGS GO!!!
