I respectfully disagree. At least Penner was out there getting in some physical play. It was a brutal stip of the puck but it wasn't because he was loafing. It looked to me like poor communication. You just don't see stuff like that unless Datsuk is out there. It was one freak play. On the other hand, I don't remember Richards or Carter even being on the ice tonight.
I gave them a free pass Saturday, tonight... Wow. Laid an egg in the 3rd. I was worried this team wouldn't have hunger and so far my fears are shining through. "Decent"
First too periods but nothing spectacular, they need to realize they don't have enough "skill" to win hockey games and they didn't win the cup on skill. At the same time they are Better then this. Wouldn't want to be in that locker room tonight wearing a jersey. Looked like the kings from 4 years ago.
I was upset about the penalties too, especially the one where he grabbed the guy with both arms. It just seemed totally unnecessary. But, it just looked to me like he was at least trying to get involved. The other two guys brother nothing to the game.
Williams looks like a guy playing sick,
Penner was gawd awful, even when he tried to do something he overextended himself out of the play.
Hard to judge Kopi (injury or playing at the wrong level) but he was out of position/behind the play a lot.
Richards and Carter were pretty meh even considering the anchor effect of penner this game
Truth be told this is where Sutter will earn his money. They all bought in after the Carter acquisition last season. Hopefully he can get around the "we know what we're doing" cup aura and get them focused on the what and why again. Bad part is he doesn't have the luxury of break em back down military style time. I'm not writing this season off, but I'm very curious to how everyone will buy back in.
Kudo's to Clifford, its like he decided to be that 40 goal guy we were jazzed about last season at the start. Driving the net and acting like a finisher.
It just felt right tonight. It had been wayyy too long.
Clifford looked good playing in Ontario this year and it has shown these last 2 games. Lewis has also looked good aside from his usual lack of a scoring touch. I thought Kopitar looked great out there for a guy coming back from an injury. I think it's just going to take a few more games for this team to really get back to the up-tempo high-pressure play style they had last year.
